To encourage players to try other flight modes and explore more of the sim, allow career players who set up a career company with aircraft crew turned on to earn passive income for time flying in all parts of the sim.
Edit: I’m not even sure your crew earn passive income if you’re flying employee missions or doing qualifications, only freelance, best I can tell
Edit 2: If it’s possible to manually move your aircraft, by loading into one and flying to anywhere that would be cool too, allowing you to sort of freeflight the aircraft you bought, paying for gas and or any repairs and dirt accumulation, then of course logging the location of the end of the flight as the new aircraft location.
Also think we should get passive income for all kinds of flying in all modes of the game.
But especially doing employee missions in Career.
I thought my game was bugged since i never receive any passive income.
Was just about to file a bug report, then i found out that you only get passive income when doing Freelance flights
So you need at least two planes to ever get any Passive Income…
To me that is very unintuitive and only prolongs the first part of career, which already feels very repetitive/grindy due to countless hours in slow 172.
I think the issue here is the potential for abuse (but truthfully, if it’s a fully-offline mode with no P2P competition, who cares?). Allowing passive income to be earned when flying in free flight means users would just spawn an aircraft in free flight, turn on unlimited fuel, and let it fly with no direction for hours and hours and hours when away from the sim, earning passive income with no consequence. I think the current system provides a user with some opportunity cost in generating passive income by flying a career freelance mission which has inherent risk of incurring maintenance costs as well as having to actually fly for a purpose. This makes sense to me, but my previous point (offline mode, who cares what people do?) still stands, so I’m torn on this one personally.
there are many times I use free flight as career just doesn’t have the flight/plane combos I want to fly. also you cannot use 3rd party planes/atc etc in career.
from a ‘roleplay’ perspective, it shouldn’t really matter that the CEO goes off to do other things
I recognise it could be abused, e.g unlimited fuel, replays etc, but frankly career mode can already be abused like this - slow down sim rate, top up fuel occasionally mid-air, abort mission.
but its a single player game, it really doesn’t matter…just let people play as they wish.
(and frankly, don’t waste dev effort trying to prevent it, some players will always find a loop hole)
so yeah, Id like to fly more free flight, yet still be ‘grinding away’ with passive income towards a 737
This needs to happen. I get that they want you online to get income to drive playtime higher, but it would be really cool to be able to free fly and get income, sometimes I just want to tool around in a fighter jet instead of doing things 100% by the books with ATC in a specific list of planes. Even if they only gave out a percentage of normal income it would be great and MSFS will not lose any play time towards their stats for this. I also don’t want to be relegated to certain areas of the world, some missions don’t appear in huge areas of the world that I want to check out.
You can do this in career mode already. You just go in, sit on the ramp in the plane, hit the slowest sim rate, F to fill your tanks, go AFK. Or you can even do the same with a long mission like medevac or medium cargo, just lower sim rate as you AP the route and you can fly for days without worry of fuel, crashing, etc. Free flight will just open options for people who still want to progress in career mode and not be stuck to a small list of airplanes and do more fun things.
