Make HUD collimated/parallax-free please(the HUD in the aircraft, not the HUD of UI)

NOT even ANY communication regarding this issue. Q&A question failed to be picked and probably will not be picked this time either as the vote count is pathetic and questions of more important issues emerged like breakout got more votes after the disappointment/loss of confidence/confusion brought by the questionable SU5. Anyway there is indeed lots of more important need to be fixed, unfortunately. Maybe they could in addition, publish THEIR more specific roadmap/development schedule on what they are working/will be work on instead of letting US ask what is or is not to be expected, bcz there are just too many and they can’t possibly answer all of them. The ones on the feedback snapshot are merely a few lucky ones that made it to the top, and tons of others remained out of radio range while who knows maybe they are already working on it or at least have a plan.

TOP GUN 2 is delayed until May 27, 2022…now they have more time to fix the HUD and other bugs :joy:

Well, as always, the HUD question remains unanswered in the most recent Dev Q&A live stream…

(I smiled when I saw the close-up of the panning camera on the F-14 HUD in the XP12 revealing video… Hope Asobo can catch up quickly.

MudMoverGSH, to answer your question from a couple months back in the Dev Q&A thread, which has been archived and can’t take new replies anymore, in FSX Acceleration the F/A-18 (A?, C?) HUD in that was not collimated and was basically a texture drawn on something in the HUD combiner glass, which is of course not what we want here.

In the GOTY video that just came out, they show a HUD view briefly at 1:29 in, but there’s not really enough camera movement, etc. to tell if they have improved things since the Top Gun DLC clip from E3:

In the close-up shot at 1:25 of the nose of the aircraft from the front, at least there is no HUD symbology texture in the HUD combiner, so that’s a positive sign…

Yeah, thx for noticing. It’s really a pity that they gave a camera shot at the end of the GOTY trailer but it’s only the view from straight ahead :joy: Hope we can see a good result in the GOTY. (I’ve created another vote last time and it didn’t make it too. However for this round of the Dev live stream the topic has been automatically reactive and the stream happened today, though I didn’t have time to check out the whole stream. Probably not picked as well but the good news is the GOTY is just around the corner and we’ll be able to find it out soon.

They mentioned in the Dev Q&A today that a fix will be coming for the HUD. They said several third-party plane makers (especially military plane makers) requested it.

Surprise! Thx for noticing. Look forward to it.

It appears that the HUD of the Rhino in GOTY edition has finally nailed it? Can’t access the game right now, can anyone test it? Judging from some YTB videos, it seems at least the text is no longer fixed onto the glass, but given that the author didn’t use any head tracking device nor move the head in the right direction, is hard to tell how good it really is.

Just watched this video and I think it’s safe to say, it’s done! Microsoft Flight Simulator | F/A-18E Super Hornet Release | The Potential Is Strong With This One - YouTube
Beautiful. Nice job Asobo!

Now the question is, how’s the accessibility to 3rd party devs?

I believe they said in the developer Q&A that part of their motivation for doing the update was that it was requested by various 3rd party developers, so I’m optimistic that it will be pretty accessible. I’m hoping that the T-45C that is out will be updated with it; haven’t tried to get that yet, but having a working HUD would definitely increase my inclination to do so. I’m also hoping this might help facilitate the QW787 coming out for MSFS.

Yeah, just anxious to see its materialization haha. Also the PMDG NG3.

Was just doing some pattern work in VR with the F/A-18E, and the HUD seems to work about as well as can be expected for initial release on a non-study aircraft. It may be missing some functionality (e.g. TACAN CDI indications, etc.), but everything that’s there appears to do what it’s supposed to do, as far as I can tell so far.

Yep the F18 HUD looks really great in VR!

Dino did release an update to the T-45 that includes a collimated HUD. It’s definitely a welcome improvement! However, there are still a couple of issues that Dino has said will be improved, namely the HUD being hard to read in bright sunlight and the pitch ladder/FPV wandering away from the horizon when maneuvering.

Splendid! I think it’s safe to say the request of this wishlist post is answered. Thx, Asobo.

Oh but I just forgot one thing: will the rain still ruin the HUD though? I believe currently the rain is kinda drawn in front of the HUD imagery, making every rain like an EMP rain that jams the HUD lol at least it’s the case for the default Rhino. (Exhaust blur too, “melting” the corner of the windshield of every single PT6 equipped turboprop lol)

Hmm, I’m not sure. We’re just gonna have to wait and see.

yeah…and if so I think maybe we’ll have to wait until Asobo revamped the whole effect vs windsshield thing…same as the wipers
