Hello!
As the title says, i would like to make these two mods work together. Anyone knows how to make it work?
Here’s the link to Steam Gauge Caravan
And here’s the link to Parorng’s NoPOD Caravan
Would be cool if someone knows how to make it work.
Thank alot, Tom
I had a look through the analogue mod files, and I can see it has what looks like a full set of CFG files, along with support files.
To merge the mods you would need to inspect each CFG line by line for differences, and potentially comparing those to the Asobo default CFG files, so you can see what was changed.
These would then need to be merged. Some example differences below.
Attrribute |
Asobo |
C208-mod |
Black Square |
max_speed_full_steering |
10 |
15 |
12 |
max_speed_decreasing_steering |
20 |
30 |
35 |
drag_coef_zero_lift |
0.03640 |
0.03790 |
0.035 |
So for each of these lines you would need to decide which one you want to keep, potentially keeping the BKSQ one.
The more I look through the values in the Black Square one, where tiny changes have been made, the more I think some of these changes were made just so it looks like they changed something. Some of the differences seem negligible, to me at least, with changes in the 1/1000’s, or smaller.
Asobo - pitch_moment_flaps = -0.15125
BKSQ - pitch_moment_flaps =-0.15
Many values are rounded up/down, as far as I can see.
I was actually surprised to see the approach speed of 100kts. I the C208-mod’s is 80, which I think is more accurate from what I have read. The BKSQ floats as it is, god only knows what its like coming in at 100kts. I tend to aim for 80, and even then if your approach isn’t quite flat you will be at idle before you get to the threshold.
I can see they have lowered a few drag coefficients for the flaps, but raised the gear a small amount. Hmmm.
Thanks @hobanagerik,
sound like a lot of work :-/ i thought it would be easier to use them together.
Like, take Black square mod and change a line to use the exterior from the noPOD mod.
Thanks for your reply anyways.
Cheers Tom
There may very well be a way to do that. That sounds like the technique for changing the audio pack for the Aerosoft Twin Otter, and it may be as simple as that, editing a line to point to another model file.
Although after having a quick look at that noPod mod, perhaps not.
I suspect all you would need are the model changes, and the textures, but I don’t know for sure. But I doubt you could get away with a cutdown mod, that runs alongside the BKSQ one, and the changes to the model would somehow have to be inserted into the BKSQ one, perhaps as a livery??
@hobanagerik yes i thought it should be possible somehow like this. Now i just need a smart enough guy who can show me the way how to do it I’m definetly smart enough to fly virtual planes but not that smart to make these two mods work toghether
Perhaps could @Parorng build some adaptation, to make his mod and the BKSQ set to fit together ?!?

Hi @SimFlight2020, already asked for it on his flightsim.to mod site. But i’m not sure if he’s still active… :-/
And i think it has to be the other way around, so that the BlackSquare mod uses @Parorng’s mod.
But as i already mentioned, i have no clue of modding.
It would be great to get a new tip from Asobo in the SDK documentation, on how the precedence and order is taken in account while building new mod related to existing aircraft. There’s should be a simple logic behind, as you and @hobanagerik already pointed out
@SimFlight2020 well yes i think i just need to know which files have to be edited in the BlackSquare mod to point at the noPOD Exterior Model and livery of @Parorng. The BlackSquare mod does nothing else with the original caravan model from Asobo i think. They just added two more liveries so you can differentiate the Asobo caravan and the BlackSquare one in the simulators airplane choosing page.
It would definitely be up to parorng, not Black Square, to make it compatible. A payware developer has a the right of way, so to speak. As what parorng built was a freeware mod to a default aircraft, and Black Square cannot ensure that parorng will support it long term, it wouldn’t make sense for them to have to adjust their product to support his mod.

Hey guys, I’m still around! But been so busy real flying haven’t been able to touch anything for a long time! 100 flight hours per month is TIRING!
There should be an easy way to link all this together. Basically you’d be linking to the Black Square cockpit model instead of Asobo’s one.
Can you tell me a bit more about the file structure of this mod? I don’t have it yet.
Is it something you just drop into the community folder?
In the no-pod model folder, I propose just linking the interior to the Black Square one.
If that doesn’t work, you may need to copy the entire mod into the no-pod model folder, and there may be some textures to move around too. But then you’d need to update the layout.json as well. That’s probably something that I would have to do.

Hi, I already made a mod that links this all together. You can check this out here.
I will make a short tutorial how to copy 3rd party liveries too.

Not so much to “make it look like a change”… more likely a program which generates values based on input and writes out a performance cfg automatically based on the calculations.

What I would love is the system depth of the analog with the excellent G1000 NXi. Wonder if that is possible?

That’s my widh too. It should be possible
So for the mod above, we also need the original no pod mod and the BlackSquare mod installed. I will plan to add both and see if there is a way to modify to keep the original Asobo cockpit.
To me the caravan looks naked without the pod, I don’t get the appeal of removing it.

Like many things, personal choice.
