I’ve noticed no drop in perfomance with this add on, but I lock at 30FPS/60Hz VSync.
I have not noticeable frame rate drop that is not directly attributable to a nearby airport.
None here either.
Yeah, I was reluctant to believe it as well, but I tested about an hour turning on and off that one addon using addon linker. and testing the same area. There was a beta update yesterday and I switched to DLSS and reduced LOD from 250 to 200. I’ll test it again and hopefully its resolved. I really like this, Addon. The water looks so naked without it now
When flying over the port of Rotterdam, the entire area was filled with little boats while there should be large vessels. Is this something that could be fixed?
I am seeing the same now. Just tested Budapest area with and without and it it about 10-15 fps difference for me with and without this mod (and to be exact, also the other windmills, powerlines and solarfarm mods from @mamuDesign )
SU10beta, latest build (.21), RTX3070, I5-10600K
I Just tested again. Same here but about 4-12 FPS loss. When I round the Space needle In Seattle and go over the water it normally jumps from about 46 fps to 50 to 51 everytime. With the add on it struggled to hit 41 then dropped back to 30s as I headed towards the airport.
Just checked FPS loss with Beta.21 (3080, 12900k, 32GB@6000, 4k, every setting max beyond ultra-lots of addon scenery and custom airports in test areas. Averge 20-30 frames).
There is indeed a slight 2-3 frame loss around Seatle when turning around Space Needle, but the mod adds A LOT of vessels around that area.
No frame losses at NYC @ Liberty Island and maybe 1 or 2 frames lost @ San Diego bay area.
But again…now the sim water areas look dreary without the mod. So whatever the FPS drop, the sligh loss is well worth it imho. I cant recommend the mod enough!
@TFEV1909
Thanks,
About Rotterdam: the data about the piers mooring in Rotterdam (as well the rest of the world) is very incomplete. The main aim of the mod is to add boats everywhere there is a pier. Of course this can lead to unwantend boats in some places. In the next update expect several boats will be removed in industrial/commercial area and in piers belonging to ferrys. That’s the best I can do without sacrificing every other boats except those in defined marinas (and believe me, doing this the add-on will loose 80% of its appeal )
About frame loss in Budapest, quite strange because no boats there (or very few, it is at the edge of the eastern coverage) tried a flight and went smooth
@RATTMAN
Thanks for you report !
I tried a flight in in Seattle and you are right, definitely when approaching the city centre there is a noticeable hit in the frames, but as per @Vette666 comments, that’s a very crowded area! Expect lot of improvement in next update (a large number of boats will be removed because inside industrial areas)
Could adding boats in the close proximity of the piers be configurable in some way, maybe linked to the in-game traffic option for leisure boats?
I also see boats lined up along some beaches outside of ENZV, maybe an issue with the date source.
I am eagerly following this and all your other mods @mamuDesign - I admire you work and effort making msfs even better!
Thanks for your reply. I do really like this mod (and your others), especially for VFR. I think I will just deselect them when flying airliners.
I did some tests at various airports (just loading on the runway with and without the mods), and there is definitely an FPS hit, but the order of magnitude various between 5-15 fps depending on location on my system. For VFR aircraft this is not an issue, and the visual appearance of the mod is well worth it!
Not possible to have sliders, I’m sorry.
Back in previous sims (fs98 to fax/P3D) we had the opportunity to define some object to appear according to image complexity slider
(
VERY_SPARSE
SPARSE
NORMAL
DENSE
VERY_DENSE)
In msfs is not possible
Can you please share the coordinates of those beaches? I checked around the airport and all should be in the right place
It’s just out from RW 28 and then follow the coast southbound (used to be RW 29 up until recently).
It extends over land to here:
Seems like the small pier in this last screenshot is not correctly dimensioned. Could be data issue.
From OSM, it seems like this pier was first added 13 years ago with 3 points, and then a 4th point was added in between the existing points (about 4 years ago). Maybe this throws your algorithms off somehow?
Gonna check and will report you back, will be solved anyways , thanks
(I have an idea where the issue is and this time is not OSM related but my bad programming skills!
and here is the confirmation: the boat script miss the end of the previous pier and continue adding boat till the next one, crossing the whole peninsula (the “line” in the picture are boats, 3.400 of them ), luckly most part of the work is removing the boats that are not sitting in the water
that’s a pretty impressive pier
Remember to include Denmark this time please I am still running off the separate bgl you provided which works great, but would be so nice to have it in the official release
yeah sure!!
Could someone please give a detailed description (example) on how to do this.
For example, the above KSFO RWY 28R
What are the steps to actually permanently make this go away when running MSFS.
Another similar example, is Rwy 01 @ KDCA
The approach lights in the water gets displayed as a Boat Pier, full of boats.
all the extended runways lights will be fixed in the next patch, so no need to focus on those anymore.
otherwise, here’s some editing I’m doing currently;
Please take a look at this post, most (if not all) the affected light have been fixed
I don’t know who made the fix ad KDCA, but please, if anyone do them in OSM, don’t remove the man_made=pier tag, but add the “mooring=no”.
The pier tag is mandatory to display the feature in the osm maps, since the approach lights are an obstacle (IRL for boats of course) it is better to leave it (the pier tag) untouched
Thanks you all !!
By the way, the latest snapshot I have acquired from OSM is from the 5th of September, every change anyone made there after this date won’t be reflected into the addon, at least in the next update. this is because i’m currently doing a TON of manual cleaning of unwanted boats (approach lighs are the tip of the iceberg): boats along oil/gas pipes, industrial areas, main industrial and commercial harbour (like e.g. Rotterdam), o ferry’s jetty
so if aim to have some fix in the next update, please drop me a line here or in the discord, thanks!
