Managing PLN/FLT files/folders - organizing and management

Here’s the situation: I have a bunch of flight plans and bush trip folders files (PLN, FLT) from flightsim.to and other sites people have provided. Some folders have both file types and other flight related files. Some PLN files have no folders.

I have all of these files organized geographically by country or USA state. I use MSFS_AddonsLinker to select which ones I want to load to MSFS.

Here is the issue: When I go to world section in MSFS and I want to load a PLN file, I have to dig around in all of these folders. I go to the Alaska folder. I want to choose the PLN, but I have to dig through the folders to find the PLN I want.

My solution: duplicate my PLN/FLT folder and rename PLN and one FLT (it may contain associated PLN files - leaving those alone). In the PLN folder (and geographic subfolders), remove all folders that have FLT in them. Maybe leave the FLT folder alone and deal with files in MSFS_AddonsLinker.

Now I can open from World view in MSFS and just have the PLN files to dig around in.

(At this point, not sure where to save the FLT files that are created with a PLN. Been ad hoc dealing with that and creating a process for it._

I dont really i create new ones each time i fly and for IFR flight plans i usually just use world map
never save flt at all as there is a 3 year old bug that it disables half the interface when you open it

not sure tech support is the right place for this subject

Hi, my question wasn’t about troubleshooting or technnical support.

It’s about process and best practices. It’s a discussion topic, rather than asking for help.

Basically I keep track of my flight plans saving one for each of my flights. I use a naming convention of aaa_bbbb_cccc_dddd where aaa is either VFR or IFR, bbbb is the departure, cccc is the arrival, dddd is other info like runway arrival, sometimes the SU number, or a sequential number to uniquely identify the flight. The files are sorted by date. I can use the Windows search to find flights to or from a specific airport. I usually don’t keep track of flight files but use the same naming if I do. MSFS updates sometimes contain changes that impacted the data in the flight plans or flight files making older ones obsolete.
