I can no longer play MSFS2020 because there’s a mandatory update that never finishes.
It gets stuck indefinitely while decompressing a package. The only way is to kill MSFS.
Sometimes MSFS crashes during starting to update with a memory violation error 0xC0000005
Another odd thing: when I click the [NOTES v] button, there’s only one word in the list: “ERROR”…
I’ve run a bunch of tests (memory, SSD, network), tried deleting and reinstalling all the packages, repairing MSFS, running `sfc scannow`, etc. Nothing has worked.
I haven’t used 2020 in a while, but what I remember is that you may need to take note of which file it’s stuck on decompressing, then find and delete it. That will force it to re-download it. A similar thread from a few years back, comment 6 talks about deleting the offending file (worth noting that OP actually solved the issue by updating their LAN drivers, but I think deleting the file was the more universally successful solution.) I just saw you mentioned that you did try deleting all of the packages, but by “deleting and reinstalling” you mean copying them back, that might not solve it. I’d try going after the specific file it’s hung on and see if that helps.
Any time I run into a download loop like that, I shut down the sim, then open the Official/OneStore folder, and delete anything that’s not a folder. Sometimes you have to do it more than once, but it will eventually finish.
The SSDs have been reset, Windows and MSFS2020 have been freshly installed, and everything is working again.
Now I just need to set everything back up.
