Marker Beacon Signal Sound is INCREDIBLY LOUD

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

1. Description of the issue: When the aircraft flies over a Marker Beacon (O, M, I), the announciator sound is incredibly loud. So loud in fact that I had to do an emergency mute on my soundbar because it was unbearable. I experienced this in the C172 Skyhawk G1000, but it’s possible that it applies to every aircraft that have Marker Beacon warning sounds implemeneted. Again, the volume level of this beeping sound is downright dangerous to hearing.

1. Load a flight with the C172 at an airport that has approach marker beacons on approach or departure.
2. Take off / land while flying over such beacons.
3. Listen to the incredibly loud beeping the aircraft makes while over the beacons.

A good airport to test this is LHSN. Fly a C172 in or out of the airport. The outer (O) marker beacon sound is unbearably loud.

I’ve noticed this too. I think there’s a volume knob for it, but I never adjusted it in 2020. Perhaps it’s turned up to full volume in 2024 by default. Have you tried adjusting it?

Interesting tip, thanks. The NAV volume is indeed at 100% by default but I don’t know if it governs the marker beacon sounds. Right now I’m flying but I will test it later.

So I checked and unfortunately it doesn’t help. Turning NAV volume down does not affect the marker beacon sounds, they stay just as loud.

I mostly fly the basic 172 and it has a dedicated volume knob for the marker in the panel above the G530. I did some research on the G1000. You can mute the beacon but I can’t find any way to adjust the volume.

I see there’s an MKR/MUTE button somewhere on the G1000 but where is it? Even in the official manual there’s no image of the front panel, only a list of buttons.

Edit: Never mind, I found it. Middle panel, below the PA button.
