Meta Quest 2 OpenXR discontinued and now leaves us to a non existent connection to the simulator

I have been trying to fathom out in how to revive the Quest 2 after not using it for quite a long while. I have studied the information from websites and Meta itself to try and work out why that the VR head set is not connecting to MSFS 2020. I looked into OpenXR and find that this software should no longer be used due to Meta taking over the franchise. I had to uninstall OpenXR and go by Meta software, but no matter what I try, even selecting Beta for public testing it just cannot find my headset once I try to switch over to VR in the simulator. I kept on trying to launch the headset for unknown sources inside the Meta app to get MSFS to work, it just doesn’t find the Quest 2. The launch just ‘bounces’ the connection image off to the Meta main screen for VR. I am baffled why VR no longer works for Flight Simulator 2020. I think that Meta has done damage to the system. I even ticked the section on their Quest 2 software to allow unknown games to work with their software, but nothing works. I think it is very strange why VR is no longer compatible with this very enjoyable flight simulator. It’s a shame.

The Quest 2 still works without too many problems with FS2024.

So, see if you need to reinstall your Meta application, which is often temperamental.

Personally, I use Virtual Desktop and I get much better results and fewer connection issues!

Regards.

Thanks for your message, but Virtual Desktop does nothing for Flight Simulation as it is originally designed for video watching. I do believe that VR is no longer compatible for either 2020 or 2024.

I use my Quest 2 with MSFS 2020. It works with Quest Link or through VD. I start the program in desktop mode then switch to VR mode when on the runway. I have a button set to toggle back and forth between desktop and V R.

Nope, Virtual Desktop also provides an optimized wireless OpenXR connection between the PC and Quest. I use it every time I play PC games on my Quest 3.

Trust me, if you can’t get OpenXR working with Quest 2, Virtual Desktop should get you fixed right up.

At any rate, Meta hasn’t removed OpenXR support from Quest 2, so this is likely a software installation/configuration issue, not an API support change. Amusing, Meta’s own AI app points back to this very forum for setup info: Installing OpenXR for Quest 2

I think he is thinking of the free software on the Quest for remote desktop.

OP, Virtual Desktop is a purchased program from the Meta store, it usually costs 19.99 USD, you must install a streamer app on your desktop machine, and the paid app on your Quest. There are options for OpenXR or VDXR (superior version) I wrote a fairly in depth process to get it up and running in the

OpenXR is an open VR standard, not one person “owns it” but different companies can use it and make changes to create their own implementation of it. in the VR Setup - Quest 3 topic. The exact same procedures would apply to the Quest 2. I retired my Quest 2 for the Quest 3 a while ago now, but it does still work.

There is no solution here as looking at it, META are a waste of space and to be quite honest with you, it is impossible to purchase the VD because I forgot my PIN and when you send for a new one, nothing happens as you are brought to a blank webpage that tells you that the page doesn’t exist and it comes as error 429. I tried to send an email to META and they haven’t even bothered to send a link to get a new PIN. However, their instructions don’t add up in their help centre because it tells you to create a PIN number for META store and this is nowhere to be found and I followed every single instruction. It’s either a scam, or META do not sell the VD. Sorry guys, but this really is a waste of time. Thanks for your time.
