Meta Quest 3 Link - freezes every few minutes

Hello,

Since the HP Reverb G2 is no longer supported, I bought a Meta Quest 3 VR headset.

The headset is connected to my PC using the original Meta USB-C cable, but the image freezes every few minutes. I then have to end the OVRServer_x64.exe process in Task Manager before I can reconnect the headset.

Does anyone know why the connection is lost every few minutes?

My setup:

CPU: I9 9900

GPU: RTX 4070 super

PCIe USB Card Fresco Logic FL1100

best regards

I can not help with your problem, but I can recommend to use virtual desktop instead of wired connection.

Sure it costs some money, but to me it was worth it.

Impossible to say for sure but I’ve found the 2x most common Link disconnect fixes are;

  1. USB power savings enabled. Make sure you go through all your usb’s (windows device manager/properties) and disable any power savings.

  2. USB bandwidth. Make sure you don’t have any unnecessary usb devices installed because this can eat up your usb bandwidth. Some Bluethooth devices, close by, like BT speakers can also cause usb interference issues.

If you have a good wifi6 or wifi6e setup (= pc ethernet wired to your router with dedicated 5Ghz or 6Ghz wifi close by. preferably in the same room), then Virtual Desktop is a very good wireless PCVR option (better than Air Link imo). I mainly use Link with flight/racing sims with my QPro/Q3/rtx5090, but I can also get very good results using VD (esp. with less demanding games). For me, it’s primarily a personal preference thing, and depends on what sims/games I’m playing.

I hope this helps mate. Cheers.

I’m not sure your problem is exactly same with mine and my workaround could work with yours…

With my case, I guess there is conflict between the quest app and newer versions of the nvidia driver. My solution is simply rolling back the graphic driver to the older version(for me, that of January).
