In this case I’d say you have the G2 runtime specified instead of the oculus. The latest oculus app offers to correct that for you though once your head unit is plugged in. Was a banner at the top of the oculus app on the pc.
One side effect I haven’t solved yet is I have to turn on the link cable manually each time within the headset or MSFS says no headset found. I wonder if there is a way to tell oculus to turn on the link cable automatically if it detects a link cable plugged in/connected.
That’s super helpful. Thanks! I was remembering that it had something to do with changing the runtime and it’s nice to know that the app does it for you now. I’ll experiment with that for a while.
I’m getting pretty high latency and stutters with my Q3, I’m connected on a 6e router on my desk. I was hoping to crank everything up but am having to play yet again with like 6 variables.
Q3
Asus AXE7800 6e
Virtual Desktop
4090
13900K
64GB RAM
Tried all codecs, frame rates, steam resolutions, and most in game settings. Latency 80-110ms.
Hoping I can get some settings dialed in, looking forward to reading the experience of others.
I am currently on the third notch out, and much more comfortable than the Q2, and much better clarity. I can go another notch in, but with my normal glasses I get a slight pinch. If I use my slimline glasses I can go all the way in without the glass touching the lesnes, but with a slight pinch over the nose.
Okay, I was able to get the Quest 3 up and running in MSFS by first changing the default headset in Oculus runtime via the Oculus app. It only worked with the link cable, though, and it was not good (I suspect a slow USB connection.) Lots of wobble, stuttering and screen tearing. But at least the link was established.
MSFS still does not recognize the headset while in Virtual Desktop, though, which is my preferred option. I know I’m missing something simple but I just can’t figure it out.
Graphics definitely look better, just can’t get the latency down. Using virtual desktop. I upgraded to 6e and am getting a good connection at 1900-2400 mbps and have bitrate up to 200 and am getting lots of stuttering effects when moving head.
Previous Quest 2 user with link cable. I got my Quest 3 yesterday and set it up for a quick session. I don’t know if I had my initial settings dialed in, but I was getting fantastic performance out of the box with no tweaking on the Quest 3. I want to tweak my settings a bit as I am still getting a tiny bit of stuttering in the cockpit, but looking out at the landscape while flying - the textures are clear and crisp and the framerate seems like an upgrade to the Q2 experience.
After switching to VR go to VD and click the Switch to VR button and see if it works.
I don’t know how that goes because I use the steam version with a Pico4 but it should be the same
I tried to get acceptable performance with the Q3 any way possible (Link, AirLink, VD etc.) and could not get rid of nausea-inducing head tracking issues. Until I tried MBucchia’s VirtualDesktop-OpenXR today and finally could fly smoothly! I still have some slight stutters left to fix but I think they are network-related because the VD monitor shows network latency going up when it happens.
Compared to my Reverb G2, the Q3 shines with its exceptional edge-to-edge clarity and noticeably better field of view. The downside of that clarity is that there is some screen door effect. I was able to mask that by slightly moving the IPD just enough to induce some tiny blurriness.
All in all, I am very happy now with the Q3 in MSFS but I never tried Pimax, Aero, Beyond or Pico so cannot compare to that.
