METAR keeps disrupting the weather/ bugged weather/Cumulus/CB clouds only/no medium to high cloud coverage

So realistic and beautiful it was…

it’s simply not the case, games on pc are never been downgraded because they come out on consoles (this is why a pc has graphical options which a console does not have), the vast vast majority of games that are now on all the platforms! now if you instead say you just hate console gaming it would be more honest!
Beside, those massive towering clouds would be so taxing on the GPU as opposed to the normal ones…that’s why the xbox excuse it’s ridiculous to be honest

Yeah. I think they changed the rendering of the clouds to accommodate the hardware limitation of XBOX. They shrunk the tile size of the clouds and it greatly affected the details and the variety that can be realized with a larger tile. Hence the volcanic and messy-looking clouds that lack any definition.

Whatever they did it was a bad decission for both xbox and pc users, better to change rendering of other less important things than weather in a flight simulator if that is the case.

yeah…unfortunately. And honestly, I don’t think this will change unless Microsoft can give Asobo a much bigger team to work on a separate PC version.

Maybe it’s too much complains about performance issues since release that made them only focus on increase performance. I could see that thing everywhere at release. Those not complaining here is actually enjoying the sim. Isn’t here telling their opinions. Soon it’s maybe a 2d sim instead of in 3d because we need it to run on old gpus and cpus.

The xbox was made with that game in mind, Asobo or Microsoft are not naive, like they realise a year after that the game can’t perform well on the newly created xbox? From the very start they said the game would ve jaw dropping on xbox too ( and even before su7 I never bad major issues at all, in any type of weather) Maybe it’s because many pc users do not have a powerful or high end machine to run it properly, thus the performance complaints. Right now to run the game even as the same performance as the xbox you need a very good pc…and very few people have one or can afford one… but we need to blame someone right? Or to have some sort of culture war on this issue…

Yes it has been complains of performance since release of the sim in 2020. Even we had the best visuals of a flightsim ever made. And we didn’t understand it requires good hardware to run it. Then xbox gets released and that gets the blame when Asobo tries to please those complaining about performance.

The problem is that Asobo not adding options to have it like pre sim updates. Same with the weather. They completely changed the weather system without options to have it like we are used to. They released a full version of the sim at release in 2020. A full release should not change systems without having options to return. Especially if the new system isn’t ready.

Yes some people like to blame the xbox and perhaps their pc it’s actually weaker, because to build a pc with the specs of the xbox series x would already be costly. Or the other reason is they wanted METAR but they can’t make a step back and be honest, so again they blame the xbox. When in fact with the clouds we have now should be more taxing (if that was the case) on the hardware since they are all CBs very dense and hash like colour!

Agree, it exists better hardware for those having really expensive hardware on pc. Let them have options to be able to use that hardware. The problem is those with lower end hardware also use the highest settings and then they complain they can’t run the sim smooth.

Has anyone even stopped to think that maybe the issue wasn’t our Xboxes or PCs, but was a server-side performance issue that has led to the changes in the weather (METAR integration notwithstanding)?

I’ve been reading all 6300+ posts on the CTD thread dating back to 2020 and I cannot help but think that Asobo has had to make changes to what they are doing server-side to make this oh-so-reliant-on-streaming-data sim be more stable for everyone.

Something has to give…

Only Asobo knows the answere.

The only thing we do here is guessing actually. We don’t know anything about what is happening under the hood of weather issues. The only thing we can actually help them with is to say it looks worse than before. And tell what things looking worse. If they know it’s because of the servers then maybe they fix the servers?

No one is BLAMING Xbox - merely stated that things went downhill AFTER the XBOX release.

So whatever caused it, coincided roughly with the XBOX release of the sim.

I keep coming back to the fact that Asobo told us - hand on heart - this sim is first and forermost made for SIMMERS and not specifically aimed at casual GAMERS. IMHO - they did a 180 on that promise…

Now they KNEW us hardcore simmers are on PC - so why bring XBOX into the mix. Sure - everyone has the right to play, but make good on your promise and cater for us simmers first - then add the fluff !

Weather still does not match metars. There is 0 visibility and fog reported however in the sim there are only scattered clouds visible. Small “popcorn” clouds everywhere during clear skies, no altitude deviations regarding colder temperatures. Dead thunderstorm clouds, no updraft, downdrafts. Still unrealistic ICING depiction and effect on the aircraft’s. According to me, simulator should be also challenging for people, to fight with weather and not only enjoy sightseeing.

I would recommend to stop with a WORLD UPDATES for a while (world looks amazing already!) and focus on fixing and adding the important things for the sim. People who plays this sim for a sightseeing wont be here forever.

All the best.

I second that more than 100% !!!

How many posts I wrote about that, about the huge lack of realism in MFS2020 as flying a C152 right into TS or CB without any danger that we should definitely encounter in severe weather conditions which must be avoided especially for VFR flights! … (see how it goes when a A330 get stuck into TS, it’s lethal IRL/Xplane) etc etc
Unfortunately 1 year and a half after the release date MFS2020 is still working in an Arcade Mode in severe weather conditions, as a matter of fact MFS2020 do not simulate the essential realistic features that should be already implemented… The weather is so important in Aviation, is it something that should be mentioned? it is also the base for creating a safe flight plan!

Besides I’m afraid that the majority will complain that the weather is too turbulent, yeap indeed I can get a very dangerous updraft and downdraft winds if my c172 flies by accident in CB or even under the base of CB!!! (This is why in IRL I did cancel a bunch of VFR flights just for the sake of safety because the conditions weren’t safe to fly, that often happens and it’s better to watch the Simpsons on TV than flying a Socata TB9 in CB!!!) :airplane: :cloud_with_lightning_and_rain: :skull_and_crossbones: :ambulance:

Well, it will be “secure” if Asobo could add two options : Arcade Mode (as it is currently) to avoid “weird complaints” and a Realistic Mode… Two modes in order to sastisfy gamers who just want to take screenshots while flying a DR400 or a B747 in Thunderstorm and hardcore simmers who like screenshots but want to feel the atmosphere alive, realistic and grounded real pilots (like me) therefore everybody should be happy eventually!

The real hope concerning the weather is based on what was said on the last Q&A, Asobo looks now aware regarding to the lack of realism and should finally work to get this sim realistic by adding Turb in CB/TS, updraft/downdraft, Gust Winds (still removed in SU8, how come for the sake of REALISM ??), and thermals etc (maybe better Icing depiction) means all what do already exist in Xplane…

So let’s Wait & See for some of us who just dig for realism and then MFS2020 will be such a great Flight Simulator especially when will come 3rd party complex birds addon Wear/Tears/Failures on top of that which draws a brillant future for MFS2020, no doubt! … :airplane:

Well written! Exactly my thoughts!

In one of the live Q&A Seb said that they intentionally dumped down weather effect like turbulence’s in CB clouds or strong downdrafts and updrafts because people would not understand what is going on.

That was little bit of shock for me, because simulator is there for simulating basically everything what can you encounter during flying. As you have mentioned, nobody wants to fly into the thunderstorm clouds because it could be deadly encounter for a small aircraft or it could damage even big airliner. Strong turbulence effect really lack in the sim and not just within CB clouds. In the summer almost every cumulus cloud is turbulent.

This Q&A was a long time ago and several sim updates before and yet this kind of realism is still lacking in the sim… Which is a bit of frustrating because people are waiting months for SIM Updates and when it is finally released nothing significant is improved, in some occasions sim update even broke down things which already worked just fine.

I don’t want to criticize Asobo, they already did a great job, I just want to point out that this sim really need a proper REALISM UPDATE and I think that there is not only a minority of people who have this opinion.

I didn’t own MSFS before SU7, but I am wishing that I could experience it. The weather sounds like it was wonderful. Right now, I can’t enjoy a flight (currently mostly flying the AS CRJ) because I keep getting nearly smacked out of the sky with extreme shifts in upper winds and extreme pressure changes. I’m literally afraid to step away from my computer to get a drink or use the facilities in fear that I will find my plane in a high altitude stall or plummeting toward the ground. I am NOT exaggerating! Three times on my flight from Winnipeg to Toronto, my plane lost control and required extreme control surface and throttle inputs to recover. I’ve had to disable aircraft damage due to airframe structural failure due to these extreme wind transitions. Furthermore, I could care less if the weather in sim matched what I see outdoors. I really wish that we could have the “toggle” option to revert to preSU7, but that sounds unlikely. This is a great sim and represents a dramatic move forward - I was heavily into FS9 for years - but I’m having a lot of trouble enjoying the simulator currently because of these frequently un-flyable conditions. I am not particularly interested in flying a weather preset as my flights are normally a couple to three hours long and cover significant distances. Some variation in weather is necessary.

Reverting back to SU7 is not going to happen I think, they said that they are implementing things like updrafts, downdrafts, gusts and they are going to add it step by step in the future SIM UPDATES, so no in the next single sim update but in the future ones

And once again I fell like I’m in some beta testing… Trailers before releasing of the sim were showing something different than what we are experiencing now… And “step by step” is really not what I like to hear after 2 years from the release…

In the latest Q&A I found out that gusts are still not present in the live weather, which a NO GO for me personally.

It’s not just trailers, we had realistic cloudscapes (no comment about metar accuracy) until a few updates ago.

Recently, we generally do not. And we regularly have those flipping popcorn clouds when things should be clear. It’s a regular disappointment compared to what we once had.

Yeah, I did a flight today with the “few clouds” weather preset. I did this simply because I didn’t want to face the flight-killing wind and pressure shifts. Frankly, it sucked. The same little balls of cloud the full way. It seemed really far from an accurate ‘simulation’ and was quite boring actually. Really disappointing. I really hope that Asobo is listening.
