I’ve held off for so long but I am actually considering getting Rex. Coming into winter in the UK and I like to fly mostly in my local area, there will be lots of overcast. If it’s going to look like this all the time I think Rex might be a better option!
It has its uses. MSFS default weather still looks better in some situations, like distinct cumulous clouds. But banks of cloud, overcast conditions, those always seem to have an edge over default.
Here there’s a photo i download from the screenshots forum. Not mine, but it shows two of the many issues with the weather. In this case the rain clouds start abruptly an in a very straight line …and second, the rain coming from the high clouds… those high clouds should not cause any rain!!
I must be honest, I prefer that to the puffy cumulus same-all-over-the-world cauliflower like mess that we usually get.
I agree. I miss the randomness in forms of clouds we had pre su7. Now it feels placed clouds like someone placed them there instead of being formed as it is IRL.
I bet it’s because some not want the weather to be random/dynamic as it is IRL.
It has never been completely random. They have always used weather reports as initial conditions. But we wanted this generic weather instead.

4 different airports. All of them should look mostly same when reading those METARS. But IRL i know for sure they look completely different from eachother because weather is random.
Now around LFRS. Asobo: please acknowledge there is an issue with how clouds are depicted in live weather or provide a feedback. Do you think they are realistics ? How would you classified those clouds ? This kind of weather may exist from time to time when there is a storm or in tropical regions but too often we are seeing those messy clouds formations.

Yes. And what is really annoying is that I experienced some most beautiful weather I’ve seen since SU7 while they were doing the server migration - I guess the metar implementation was broken. Full overcasts, multiple layers, stratus type clouds etc etc. Now we are back to this mess again. Such a shame.
What I will never understand it’s the nastiness of some users in this forum, the atmosphere can get very toxic at times! I was accused of modifying my photos, when in fact anyone can get that mess if they fly within weather fronts. What does it cost to help and recognize that the SIM has got a huge problem since s7? all we want is to improve the game and yet some users flat out are on the hunt to criticize and flat out dismiss those people who are documenting for over a year now, all the bad with the weather engine since su7.
My experience 100%
Great examples of the terrible clouds depiction we have now!.
And the worst thing is some people saying we have the “best” live weather ever!!, and happy with that, thinking that is actually realistic
Real life pretty much never has such a crazy fuzziness/shagginess

Maybe due to the lack of opacity, but for whatever reason, SU6 had far superior clouds depiction.
The last picture is from MSFS before SU7, right? If not, that’s how I remember the first year of MSFS.
omg this thread is from 7 January 2022 and still not bug-logged
I don’t know how many proofs they want before they log it…
is it a bug?
Well, for me it is a bug because when you are using weather presets you can see nice clouds and it does not impact (or a little) the performance. It looks like Live Weather engine is not receiving the correct data to depict with accuracy the clouds.
When SU7 came out and introduced that regression with clouds in Live Weather, since Asobo did not communicate around that and did not recognize it was a bug even if many reported an issue, we thought maybe it was to improve performance because of the introduction of XBOX and/or because of the METAR introduction that was limitating the clouds depiction in Live weather.
wedding cake , i think the metar has found a wife
Those towering clouds are still happening even if less frequent.
