The sad thing is we’ve tried I think really hard in the good majority of posts to be really constructive and provide detailed examples. But for it to have gone on for this long and still now we’re left with this mess and it not working properly, it’s really difficult to not feel so bitter towards the developers and just not listened to.
I don’t want to discuss too much here - because it’s a bug report thread - but something is clearly wrong here and it came with the 2nd patch - I know what I saw before and what I see now. I don’t want to do anyone wrong - and I don’t want to post too many screenshots here but,
before the 2nd patch the weather was mostly spot on and I was very positive about it in the first threads and was actually positive about FS2024 “despite some bugs” - now I see the same weather ‘mistakes’ everywhere as in MSFS 2020 - something must have been changed - maybe that explains the ‘higher server bandwidth’ and honestly (I don’t want to do anyone wrong, as I said) but there were also things done in the MSFS 2020 era ‘that weren’t done, according to the developer’ (tree LOD, suddenly no more cloud density with LIVE Weather etc.). ) so I wouldn’t be surprised - but I want a statement here now - it seems to me that they simply ‘added’ weather servers from MSFS 2020 or changed the way they display them!
Overcast here for days and also foggy and in the MSFS (but you can see that the weather engine is on - because there are clouds in the distance)
LOXT:
same weather station with Active Sky FS:
satellite picture part of Europe !
At MSFS 2024 exactly what I saw at MSFS2020 - these transparent clouds everywhere and all at the same height with METAR clusters in places in poor visibility !
at night the same transparent clouds everywhere !
MSFS 2024 @release (about the same weather - nothing is fluffy and transparent ):
so very strange ! ![]()
It was probably the only way to get textured cirrus into the sky.
All live weather clouds are volumetric, created from data contained in the MeteoBlue weather model. Those clouds dynamically grow or diminish based on model data and move with the wind.
Voxel-based volumetric cloud rendering techniques cannot create thin, yet highly detailed clouds like cirrus typically are. In FSX and early versions of P3D, all clouds were created from “canned” 2D textures. The whole weather system in those older sims was designed to use textures, and they could be morphed in such a way as to grow or diminish and move with the wind.
2D texture clouds have several drawbacks. They look 3D when viewed from the cockpit, but their actual 2D nature was obvious in external views when viewed from above the aircraft - they would be seen as “billboards” that rotated to always face the aircraft as it moved forward.
MSFS 2020 did (and does) have “cirrus” clouds at high altitudes, but their lack of detail was obvious - especially when flying near or through them - because they are created using volumetric techniques based on voxels.
I am assuming that the new “cirrus” in MSFS 2024 are created from canned textures added “on top” of the rest of the volumetric live weather clouds, which is probably why they appear to be fixed in place and do not move.
It does look like a bug. From what I notice the sim is taking the METAR summary data and disregarding the rest.
how can you enjoy flying while you’re seeing this horrible depiction, i can’t believe that after 3 years we’re still seeing this mess
I don’t know why this topic doesn’t make it to the request list, it’s never something Asobo tries to fix. ![]()
i was really optimistic before the release of msfs 2024, but now i lost hope. 3 years and months of waiting is too much. If only they tell us that they’re not able to fix it instead of letting us waiting for something to happen. Weather is the most important thing in flight simulation.
I think the weather got more accurate and better, it started just before update 1.2.8.0 went live and now is present in update 1.2.8.0 So I think they updated something but nothing in the patch notes.
Can anyone do a check up on the game and see if its more accurate to the METAR or I’m just imagining.
Also I’m only checking UK weather, weather in other parts of the world might be different.
I am not sure why they are lying saying that the clouds do not come from METAR since the METAR bubble are also visible from the world map and of course in game too!! over the last few weeks the cloud depiction for me at least is very much like in 2020, jut gigantic clouds everywhere, plus the strange clouds upside down !
I actually thinks the METAR-bubbles comes from Meteoblue. It’s their way of creating more accurate to METAR weather that the community actually asked for, because most of the users compare the weather with those. Thats the reality. For me it makes the weather worse because i compare the sim weather with how weather behaves physically in the real world. For others it may be an improvment that preffer more accurate to METAR than physical correct simulated weather. I hoped they made improvments to those bubbles in MSFS 2024 but that were not the case it seems. I hope they listen to us soon that want a more physical correct weather simulation soon ![]()
Exactly the same bugs (at least that’s how a few of us see it) as in the MSFS2020 - and not just in this area.
I can only repeat myself - I am absolutely not negative about the MSFS, quite the opposite - but that has to be said!
And I stand by my opinion that something has changed since the first patch. Either something has been taken away from the weather/cloud resolution/density to save performance (switching to MSFS2020 Weather Server ?, or whatever), for me the weather looked better directly after the release! I use Active Sky MSFS / that’s the only thing keeping me from going back to X-Plane completely again.
Now that you mention, I had the same feeling that weather has changed from release.
Live weather is completely bugged today, look at all the cloud cover it has over the UK, when in reality areas around Bristol, birmingham etc should be clear (the irony, I know)
Was working ok this morning, it’s gone bugged from around 1300-1400UTC onwards and seems to be injecting the wrong data, like for another day.
This is how weather looked before SU5 in MSFS2020. We can clearly see high altitude overcast. Now it’s impossible to see it.
This bug with 274 votes is not present in the last feedback snapshot… while the last bug present in the feedback snapshot has 154 votes
Because they don’t care about the weather. I guarantee when SU1 drops apart from the historical time/weather there will be no other fixes or improvements. I’d put money on it right now.
