Without drudging up the debate about weather. If you’re getting no METAR and still having weather, know it’s 100% Meteoblue and count your lucky stars!
As far as I know at 74 NM you might be too distant from the airport to get this data.It happens to me all the times when I am far away but when you get closer you’ll get it.
I’ve seen available as far out as sub 100NM. Even on long cross country flights it’s sometimes difficult to tell the difference between just MB or METAR depiction. Since METARS rarely report above FL250 I would assume any depictions above those altitudes are METAR influenced.
Well,if there are no irl data from NZHK it’s quite hard to have it on the sim.
BTW, I generally do short IFR flight Low altitudes of about 1 hr and I have noticed that landing airport METAR never shows up on departure but I can get it only when getting closer to the arrivals.Don’t recall if there is a standard mileage .Most of the time you can choose Metar of nearby airports from a drop-down menu. On a post, time ago, someone explained that this make sense because from departure to arrival the weather can change so it must be given just in time before landing.So,time/distance matters.
