Nothing that wasn’t really already known, looks like Meteoblue using it as marketing to attract more business.
This has enabled the game to almost perfectly mirror the weather reality, creating unique opportunities to fly through real-time weather conditions at any point on Earth.
Minus Thunder and lightning, proper snow coverage / representation among a few other things.
Yes, I agree, I fly from Whangarei NZ quite a few times and the weather in the sim never matches the forecast or what is outside. I understand NZ charges for METAR data and that is the reason why. When planning dept and arr the world map reflects the real world cloud cover from Meteoblue, but doesn’t match up when dept from NZ airport.
I don’t know fact from fiction with any of this at the moment.
I like how they’re just now saying something that should have been done 3 years ago. Was this just copy/pasted from the original announcement from 2019?
To be clear, what MeteoBlue provides MSFS is a subset of their forecast data. MS has tools to reduce it to a manageable and streamable format for the FS platform. Which takes some time, and is not constant. I don’t have any idea how often MS processes the data they get from MB or how they process it.
And, as far as the lightning and snow cover issues, that, again, is an FS issue. It has been explained before that MS processes the snow cover data set, and the reason for snow in the valleys is due to the reduction of the dataset and loss of accuracy and the snow spreading out. And other reasons. Lightning, too, there were bugs in it, so it seems they removed it a while ago (which makes me happy, as it was making lightning strikes at in appropriate times, all the time.
In some cases the lightning wasn’t even rendered correctly. I’ve had lightning appear inside the cockpit before.
