Hey thanks for giving us ability to pick metric units over imperial. But there is small flaw here and there. By changing units many ppl thought of stuff like in Europe QNH is given in millibars or hPa fuel is usually in kg/l or tons. But nobody here gives the wind speed in km/h (sometimes it is given in m/s but most likely in knots) same with the distance where it is usually NM instead of kilometers.
For me as a pilot it is really confusing having metric or even hybrid (glad that we have hybrid I would get crazy if Iāll hear āClimb and maintain 10kilometersā) as a choice. Iāll be probably sticking to imperial until it gets fixed or something. Please look into this and make it more realistic. For casuals from outside of USA it could be good to give them oportunity to change it to more familiar units like - km/h, kg, km, and so on. But Iād like to totally see it how I see it in real life so mix of metric and imperial units.
I was really hoping that, at least in Europe, we could get āQNHā rather than āaltimeterā and the value in millibars. Okay, got the QNH but in either the Hybrid or Metric settings I still get pressure in inches. So as even the distances seem to be variable Iāve decided to refer to the US system until they get it sorted or someone produces a āhackā. At least Iād gotten used to it!
Maybe in time Asobo could offer separate options for each so that simmers world-wide could use their own local variations. (There is another thread asking for this, canāt find it for now, but Iāve voted on it).
IĀ“m, as real world pilot in EU, using vario in m/s, altimeter in feets, speed in km/h, QNH and distance in meters for RWY and in kilometers for distance to turning point or to destination. Best solution is add into settings separate item for all variables and let us to select what we want to use. Win-win strategy and easy to implement.
where the hell in europe (apart from likeā¦ gliders or GA) would anybody use speed in km/h? Same with the distance it is usally NM all the way. You can have it as a reference but aviation rulers and so on are all usually based on NM. And when you use altitude in feets and V/S in m/s then you have a problem.
Agree. Iāve waited for this option and when i tried it i saw that itās completely useless. Ffs just make everything changing automatically depending on which region youāre flying.
Asobo thx for adding metric units but i usually use knots for windsā¦ so if u just ad more details please
Thats the settings which would be just really great
The pic is from my Weather app! āAero Westherā
in CZ and Slovak Rep. is normal to have many gauges in aircrafts in m/s for vario, altimeter in feets and speedometer is each time in km/h. So only alti is un feets, all other in metric units. Only usa aircrafts like Cessna or Cirruses have gauges in nm and knots and feets. So why I cannot select units I want to use when it is possible and easy to implement?
Flying is a global enterprise, with of course airliners in particular flying across the world. It is an accident waiting to happen if countries didnā t agree on a common usage for the altitude, if nothing else.
You may choose to use cubits for your altitude, but if nobody else does you will have a problem in real life, and also in the sim.
I too think we need to be able to set things as we want them. Even the hybrid setting doesnāt do what I want it to do, the altimeter is still set to inches which was not what I was expecting. To be honest just being able to change that to hps with everything else left as it was would have suited me.
Well I usually fly Diamond Stars and tecnams and they usually use what most of professional aviation uses - knots for speed and NM for distance. I suspect that these m/s for vario or km/h for speed are used in Czechia and Slovak only in GA. I highly doubt that flying IFR into towered airport is ever been given these in units youāve mentioned.
But yeah - for the sake of small aviation setting km/h for speed might do the trick.
