That might be Microprose’s reasoning. All the assets already created could be used in MSFS and therefore sparking interest in the other title.
I remember the early 1990s original B-17 game and had the Mighty Eighth version (which recently got rereleased as Redux). Now I’m not only looking forward to The Bloody Hundredth but also to the version for MSFS. I hope it’s not only the G version - I have a soft spot for the non-chin-turreted F as well.
Out of all the ww2 bombers they chose one that’s someone else is making , why does this keep happening in MSFS with a multitude of developers and aircraft/airports?
As said earlier - they’ve been modelling it for their new releases and it makes sense to put time and effort into system modelling for MSFS without having to bother getting reference pictures or 3D scans of the corresponding aircraft.
Bloody 100th was announced back in 2021 and they plan on bringing the B-24 to that game as well. Probably it will be part of that Heritage Valor Collection too.
SIDE NOTE: The twitter account for Microproses B17 franchise has been silent for more than a year now. Doesn’t make me too optimistic.
MicroProse is also developing a dedicated VR B-17 c0mb4t simulation. Super-excited for that!
I can’t believe we have flight sim fans hearing the company name for the first time. Talk about making me feel old! MicroProse released the first civilian flight sim I ever bought, Solo Flight, for the Commodore 64 a year before SubLogic released Flight Simulator II (the predecessor of the sim we’re flying now; MS didn’t develop the early FS, they bought it from SubLogic) for the platform. Solo Flight was written by Sid Meier, of Civilization fame.
Microprose and Westwood - the two names that will always ring a bell with me when it comes to thinking about my earliest PC gaming experiences. B17 (Microprose), Kyrandia Trilogy and Lion King Demo (Westwood). Yep, that hair is fading to grey.
I got to visit Spectrum Holobyte once, to interview TK for a preview of European Air War for Computer Gaming World magazine. And see Falcon 4.0 under development.
Good times! If you could release 1942:PAW, EAW, and F-14 Fleet Defender today with 3D graphics and updated flight models (but without DCS complexity) I feel like they’d be great for getting new people into sims. Those missions were so much fun.
Just as a reminder, the topic remains the MSFS version of the B-17 by Microprose. All other variants, especially those that favor more kinetic environments, is against Code of Conduct. Let’s please stay on topic. Thanks.
I did really like seeing the animated ball turrets with crew members present and accounted for, that was a cool touch. I’m not sure how these turrets are meant to look if the aircraft finds its way to the Marketplace. What, would they be observation domes?’ It will be weird having a Flying Fortress without the fortress.
I am still trying to get over my shock at seeing the Microprose name again. I’d completely lost track of that company and, erroneously, assumed they were defunct.
Combat, violence, and everything in-between. That’s the challenge with these topics. We don’t want the discussion shut down, but we can’t cross the line on Code of Conduct.
