Microsoft/Asobo Servers

Flat out suck!! There I said it. With a 100mbps connection how many times do I have to have a warning about not being able to stream photogrammetry, Azure voices going down, no live weather. I have a great router. I can stream anything Netflix or anything else can throw at me. But not MS. It’s really pathetic and I am peeved that I am not getting my money’s worth. It all started when MSFS came out for XBox. Never had any of these problems before this. I’m mad and I say to MS and Asobo, UPGRADE YOUR SERVERS!!! GIve me my money’s worth!!

The servers have really struggled since SU5, there’s certainly work to be done in this department…amongst many others!

I guess increased users has added increased strain on the servers and they struggle to cope, especially at peak times.

I have rarely had an issue, NorthEast US, 250mbs limited by DOCSIS 3.0 modem

Wonder if it could be region based?
Im on 50mbps down, 10 up and never had these photogrammetry messages or other services go down.

For live weather, there’s been some issues recently that impacts everyone.

You may be right, I’m in Halifax NS and I don’t have many issues

This continues to be a problem with Microsoft Flight 2.0. When it was just PC users there seemed to be plenty of bandwidth, now they added Xbox and failed to add enough bandwidth for the Xbox users so the servers are getting overloaded daily.

They need to improve the offline mode because it is clear that Microsoft has done a cash grab and sold us up the river on the forced online version. Get rid of the children running ATC, precache scenery based on flightplan, preload weather also based on flightplan. Thus when we inevitably get kicked off the servers I can continue to enjoy the software I purchased at the quality I expect.

The reason that it is streamed is due to the size of the files required to store all the data.
Most PC’s would be very hard pressed to do so.
Here is a link to a vid that gives a lot of good details.

If there was some sort of usable interface to download what users find acceptable this would be a vast improvement.

Great idea Ken. It will increase loading times but the security that your game will work properly is worth it.

Not trying to be smart, but, this is what rolling cache is designed to assist with (at least partially).

I’ve used cache from day 1 and never had an issue with scenery, though I do get the occasional voices issues.

Due to my location my internet bandwidth is abysmal in comparison.

Wasn’t MSFS supposed to be a way for MS to show off the capabilities of Azure? This sort of thing was supposed to be a non-issue. Really disappointing that they seemingly refuse to do a bit of overkill on the bandwidth and server capacity for MSFS.

It was, as I understand it. But it’s instead showing that Azure is actually not as capable as claimed. A bit of an embarrassment I think.

I never asked to download the entire planet. Foreflight offers a pack-for-trip option in which it analysis your trip and downloads what you need so you have what you need. I fly an airplane with SATCOM and wifi on board, but not everyone does. Thus they offer a sort of proactive approach.

Microsoft could do the same. Take your Flightplan and proactively download the content. Thus when you lose connection to their servers, happening almost every time I use their game, then the scenery, weather, etc is already precached. Much better than the oh if you happen to have flown this route before mentality that the current cache offers.

It might look a little funny at 41,000’ having a noticeable corridor of high detailed terrain, but then again who is gawking at the scenery at that altitude? Maybe even downgrade the corridor if needed when at high altitudes where the details of every little house and chicken coop don’t matter. I am sure the Asobo software engineers could figure this out.

I know the bandwidth elite don’t need this, which is why it should be optional. Hit a button before flight or turn on an option in the settings.

Servers overload for sure, possibly area related. I fly from central Italy and in the last couple of months I get the bandwidth alerts almost every flight. I usually disregard it, and often nothing happens. Sometimes Azure voice goesd down, seldom photogrammetry.

That certainly could work!

Simple cure, play offline

So never get live weather and always have kids voices … I think you’re missing the point of OP

Yes we are all aware of the offline mode because almost every time I use the software I am forced offline. This is despite having 200Mbps bandwidth.

The fact is somehow I think I should somehow be able to enjoy the same experience as everyone else. If not then I might as well use one of the competitors software as without the online modes the game is crippled.

It’s been a constant issue for me over the last week. I’m on a 500 mb, wired connection. It doesn’t matter how fast things are on your end. The servers are BAD.
