I’m currently taking a similar break though not entirely cold turkey - Indiana Jones and I have some mysteries to unravel and bad guys to beat up. But I’ll still update the sim, as I did this morning, and run a few tests to see if something works as the urge strikes. With load times of only about 3-1/2 minutes, it’s much easier than it used to be!
Really, Indiana Jones has washed the bad taste of MSFS’ 2024 launch from my mouth. It is truly a delight, and also on Game Pass. Quite cool RT options too.
It’s amazing on Xbox Series X. ATC works flawlessly. The Turtle Beach Flight Stick has great default settings. Flying at night feels balanced, and seeing live traffic feels so much more alive than before . It’s a flawless, a breath of fresh air experience… of course, reading this by now you probably realized I went back to the previous game. I wish the devs from Asobo a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Making games is very difficult (although not as difficult as building software for real airliners, or even car ABS). I wish them all the best and hope that next year they are able to get their new game up to a good state that everyone will love. For now, at least for me, the 2020 version is the better game. Cheers!
Xcloud: More blurries, fewer frame rates following patch. Default DA40 NG has seemingly sprouted (Pinnocchio style?) nosewheel steering, though not noted in the release notes. Whilst this may be my fantasy for the '40 I’m not sure about authenticity. BTW, has this iteration completely started over on default aircraft? So much about the '40NG seems different from 2020: developed power, indicators, v-speeds, checklist and procedures, handling, etc.
VR not working doesn’t prevent you from flying either.
Those two things aren’t even remotely comparable
if the (premium deluxe) car represents the premium deluxe sim, then the road also seems to represent the sim. However IRL the car you bought and the road you drive on aren’t the responsibility of the same people.
the car would be damaged and you’d have to invest a lot of money into repairing it.
so if the premium deluxe car represents the VR, then the comparison still wouldn’t work, because your VR works perfectly fine - just not in conjunction with MSFS2024, and the sim will definitely not damage it.
and last not least: if you’re hitting a pothole at night you might have been driving too fast or not with enough attention to the road, otherwise you probably could have spotted the pothole in time. On a bad road with a lot of potholes it’s usually the driver’s fault.
So if were comparing correctly, and the VR is the car and the sim is the road, then your car is a sports car with racing tyres and all the roads are icy and snowy. Unfortunately the council (Asobo/Microsoft) haven’t prepared enough for the winter conditions and in addition their snowplow is broken, so you can’t drive on the road with that specific car until the problem is solved. However since you have a different (more boring) car with AWD and winter tyres (your monitor), you could use that in the mean time to drive on all the snowy roads.
That’s definitely an inconvenience and I understand you’re not happy since you can’t use your favourite toy. But hey: that’s life. There’s a bunch of stuff I can’t use with MSFS2024 either. So I either go back to MSFS2020 or I’ll simply suck it up.
Actually it’s exasperating - before the last patch I had no long loading times at all (except for the normal ones) now it’s already minimum 4 minutes at" 6% loading language" and in total it takes 5 min longer until I’m in the main menu !!!
this can’t be the case - and suddenly I have sound dropouts and stutters everywhere !
Cache files and community folders deleted etc etc. - I praised the MSFS 2024 but I’m slowly getting annoyed!
I was waiting on the PC-24 and happily read that it was fixed with this patch, only to find that it was only partially true. Since the code is being streamed now, can they not make small or minor changes and put them online without an official patch?
I just finished the Low Altitude weekly Challenge with the F-18 and must say that the Textures Streaming thing they have there definitely can’t keep up with the speed of that airplane.
Such a regression from 2020. Really hope they figure that out soon…
They can… however they have to test everything first. Caranado keeps fixing it but the problem with the pc-24 is with encryption when it gets uploaded to the servers (lots of other bugs caused by this also.) They need to fix that issue in order to make the PC-24 work.
Well since the patch my loading times have gone through the roof.
Used to be able to load to the start button in a couple of minutes.
Now I’m constantly stuck on 5% Loading language for over 5 minutes then it crawls through the rest of the loading process to almost 10 minutes loading time (This is on a dedicated M.2 SSD drive).
Have tried with empty community folder, no difference.
Have ensured system time is synched and again no difference.
Interestingly if I simply kill the sim when it gets stuck at 5% using task manager, next time I start the sim and press continue after the “last session ended unexpectedly” popup it skips right past the loading language nonsense and goes straight to loading vfs packages and my sim loads in the normal 2 or so minutes.
Everything was fine prior to this patch that as usual creates as many problems as it allegedly fixes.
But if there’d be any reimbursement necessary, then Microsoft could refund him the money for the sim since it’s not working as advertised.
People are just angry they can’t use their expensive new toys with MSFS2024. And I can understand that, but since MS can’t fix EVERYTHING at the same time, they have to prioritise. And obviously they can’t prioritise so that everyone will be happy. Also we do not know how some bugs interact with each other, so it may currently not even be POSSIBLE to fix the VR issues until other issues are fixed first. But we don’t know that and have to have at least some faith that Asobo and MS know what they are doing. Otherwise we can give up here and now.
Fact is: NO MATTER what they fix next, a bunch of people will be unhappy because their most “critical” bugs WEREN’T fixed. I have a lot of stuff on my list that I want fixed too, you know.
But I know all the whining here won’t make a lick of difference. And I also find it very destructive. If I were some programmer with Asobo working my butt off trying to get stuff fixed, and all the feedback I’d get were “but why you didn’t fix MY bug, MS don’t care, they just take our money, scammers, mimimi” then I’d sooner or later say to myself: “why bother” and shift my focus on my upcoming Christmas vacation …
Yes this is much better since the update, I fly on Xbox series X and it is great on there but the thing that amazes me is that it runs really well on my Lenovo Legion Go handheld. The graphics are really good and the performance is amazing considering that it only has 16 mb of ram when you hear of the problems others are having on their expensive gaming pc’s with 64 mb. I have 2020 running on it and that was good but never expected this to work at all.
