Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 General Feedback

  • Disaster Launch
  • Severe lack of proper communication from MS/Asobo about the state, the issues, timelines and focuses. 3 sentences at the top of the forums is not communication.
  • Still cannot play the game from UK without VPNing into Dublin
  • Who thought it’s a good idea to force addons from 2020 without the option to disable them? Scenery conflict galore, breaking the Career mode. You try landing on a cliffed runway
  • Mysterious ‘Warning’ messages with an icon of 2 people. No clue what it’s supposedly warning me of
  • Career mode sightseeing activities loading 3 people into 2 people plane
  • Wonky taxi paths in activities

Servers/Communication asside, inexcusable as they are, the bugs are very visible. In the entire ‘testing’ nobody came across scenery conflicts? Taxi paths asking you to leave runway by making 180 turn mid-runway and leave the wrong way round via rapid exit taxiway? And if it was raised, why on earth were these rather simple things not resolved?

This. I can only imagine what’s happening now behind the scenes…for sure there are harsh talks going on right now.

Holy Guacamole! I finally figured it out how to assign functions to my Logitech Extreme 3D pro joystick after two long days of great frustrations. The UI is a nightmare. All the buttons and camera views are now Okey Dokey. Had to go in and delete all the default assigned buttons on the joystick and then only assign buttons for the functions I needed. Also needed to assign a toggle for something called Cockpit and Exterior view “Freelook” To keep the tophat POV views in place and not recentering when I released the tophat. A collateral nuisance is that I have to push that assigned toggling button every time I switch between Cockpit and Exterior views. Nuthin’ is easy.

Also I discovered trying to do a takeoff in my fav JustFlight Piper Tomahawk that its wheels were chocked and the wings tied down to the runway. How to remove the chocks and tie downs I asked myself with no answers. Thank the mythical gods for Google - it turns out you have to zoom in on the dull, bland looking dark Copilots tablet and click “Fix” at the bottom of the 'Walk Around" section on the screen… Ay Caramba!! There’s that Learning Curve I anticipated. lol

Are the cockpit panels supposed to look gray, blurry, lifeless? I don’t know, but they sure don’t look like the ones in the trailers.

So much for pre-ordering -lol. At least now I can finally take to the skies and try to enjoy this neato trouble plagued sim. I am running a brand new Windows 11 gaming PC with 64GB Ram and a 1GB internet connection.

Wow, I did it!!! :grinning: I did all the training sessions (they showed a lot of keyboard shortcuts which where completely new for me) and the lessons are much better than in MSFS2020. It takes a few seconds to load all scenery but once loaded it looks great! The feel of controlling the aircraft is much better in this version and it is actually fun to fly. Now I will continue my journey towards the skies!

When MS + Asobo has fixed all the issues I think this will be a great sim despite all negative feedback.

Please fix the German Translation in
The career Mode it’s just too faulty

Yesterday I said I would switch back to MSFS2020 for now. Last night I wanted to try the game “one last time” and it worked pretty much perfectly =) Yes, there are still a few bugs, but if they get fixed and the game runs reliably it will be an awesome Simulator and better than MSFS2020 in almost every aspect.

I would like to know why I have sat in the 97% club for 47 hours now and yet this YouTuber can stream this stutter free, perfect bandwidth and do what he has done yet I suffer

Have you tried restarting, or have you literally just left it running while sitting at 97% for 2 days?

This has to be a tiem of day thing. I got in really quickly at 5.45am today. Maybe y’all need to start getting up earlier.
On the other hand I’m not holding out much hope for using it tonight!

Exactly. Adding more stuff nito the streaming mix. I relly need to go check what all is enabled. Hopefully not 3 years work of marketplace content, only a fraction of which I usually have enabled at any time. Why add to people’s woes.

For me it’s scenery conflicts, duplicate taxiways, buildings (or no buildings at all due to conflict), terrain height issues…

Yep, or during school holidays, weekends or any other peak times

My content didn’t show up the first time I used the sim, but it was there the second time I started it up.

From what I saw in a brief look, it was mostly airports that hadn’t been approved though so maybe that aspect (terrain issues) will be minimised or there will be a fee attached to it. I just wish they weren’t enabling stuff by default. I was shocked when the toolbar showed the aircraft carrier dialogs, as I was assuming I was still using the default base sim. Why throw more stuff onboard when there are so many other issues right now. Let us see how it is without add ons for a while and let us choose when to activate them.

Well i am no tuber ….

But

Day 1 was horrible could not fly
Day 2 long loading but could fly … beuatifull 70% of the time ( rest bandwith issue bad streaming )

Day 3 … perfect loading times and steaming. Looks amazing … super fluid …. Missions ppl / cpl

Netherlands ( europe server )

Suggestions for Improving Community Experience with Future Releases

In my opinion, there are a few steps that could have significantly improved the user experience surrounding the release of the new simulator:

  1. Pre-Release Accessibility to Keybinds and Assignable Controls:
Providing a comprehensive menu of all available keystrokes, axis assignments, and toggle/button options prior to the simulator’s release would have been incredibly beneficial. This would have allowed users to familiarize themselves with the new features and prepare their setups—especially those transitioning from MSFS2020—without the pressure of diving in post-release.
  2. Staggered Pre-Download Window:
Introducing a staggered pre-download system, opening 48 hours prior to launch based on time zones, could alleviate server congestion. Users could download the necessary files in advance, with access to the servers restricted until the official release.
  3. Strategic Global Launch Timing:
Scheduling the official launch time during a window that minimizes peak user activity—such as 7 AM Zulu (UTC)—would allow for a smoother rollout. This timing would likely occur while the majority of users in the US and Europe are either asleep or beginning their workday, creating a “soft opening” for server stability.

These steps could greatly enhance the overall launch experience and ensure a smoother transition for the community.

Unfortunately I have to add more bugs…

  1. Some commands are not saved and must be set every time.

  2. The first helicopter flight lesson (the only one I’ve tried so far) gets stuck at a certain point and cannot be completed.

Lack of options to download content items is an atrocious decision.
Constantly stuck trying to load into the game, when I do most of the plane is missing, sounds missing, low res textures, warnings from the sim about limited bandwidth. I have a 100mbps connection, UK. My connection is working perfectly fine, its a game server issue.

I love the fact that I cannot even use the poll to show my discontent. So, dear Asobo this is a ■■■■ SHOW! I crash to desktop when trying to load into a larger airport. The whole control setup is a nightmare. No pre bindings - bindings that changes while flying etc. How difficult to is it to pre map a joystick? I mean no bindings at all.
First flight to PPL. I am being asked to use CTRL-E to start engines but if the engine stops - say you want to bind your rudder, then going back then no bindings on the keyboard so Ctrl-E no longer works.
Calculating the enormous amount of cash you must have taken in then assuming 200.000 users when the base is 15 millions for 2020 is such an accountant thing. How long before you add enough servers so that we don’t have to suffer?
As it is you are dangerously close this being worst product launch of the decade.

Does anyone know how to do an old style PAUSE/UNPAUSE as I get an active pause all the time now. Maybe it’s not possible any more. I’ve tried mapping my usual P key to PAUSE, but it doesn’t seem to matter. I wouldn’t mind, but active pause zooms you out a few hundred feet from your aircraft and dispalys menus. I just want to retain my current view and have no menus like the old non-active PAUSE used to do.

thanks to multiple CTDs and other Bugs I started the SIM multiple times. But the Premium deluxe content from 2020 is still missing in my standard 2024
