Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 General Feedback

I don’t have any issiues like that, but okay i live in sweden so maybe different servers, plus im playing it on xbox.

Interestingly 3 out of my last 4 nights using the sim I set up my flights and got pushed back and am ready to taxi then I find my control inputs inop. They are all assigned properly, and the axis are seen in windows usb controller config, the hotas is seen in the sim. It’s like the sim just ignkres the inputs from the hotas.
Only a sim reboot resolved the situation. This has only happened to me since the latest patch too. Didn’t happen today though. I’ve not seen anyone else mention it either.

Especially 3rd party airports bought in fs2020 marketplace they deactivated them all but now we cant even try them out. No timeline either for giving us that option sadly.

I’ve spent the day flying the Fenix in 2024 with GSX, Navigraph, BATC both all of which run very well with fs2024. BATC AI traffic everywhere at airports doing sensible things too for a change. (The default sim AI is enough to tear your hair out at)

I haven’t been back using fs2020 yet either so something is keeping me in fs2024.

Having good 3rd party software certainly helps. You can just treat fs2024 as a base platform for it to run on then.

I haven’t used GSX yet. I think I actually have enough RAM and a video card that could probably take it. Maybe that will be next. My setup is a little glitchy here and there but not a big deal. I think I might be officially off of 2020  I just really like the 3rd party airports. In the airliner world you spend like half your time there. I really enjoy the realism they bring. I can’t wait for them to be available.

Has anyone been able to actually fly using Xbox series S? I have been unable to do a free flight even after recent update.

Well said, I am very happy for you to have the patience to allow the makers of this game time to iron out the wrinkles. I to have a decent machine that I paid over $6k for majority of use for MSFS2024.

And I have read a number of comments from other members of this great community talk about being patient and this is a complex game. But I think we are all missing the point.
Let me put it this way, if you were to go out and purchase a new car, one you have been really looking forward to and after collecting it your first drive home from the dealer it started to run slugishly the motor started to jault and all of a sudden you find yourself on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck. You get it back to the dealer to be told “oh this is still an experimental vehicle and we are working on ironing out the kinks. It’ll take a while but we will get there” Would you keep the car? i recon most people wouldn’t
But if you do choose to keep it that’s great. For me no thanks. I paid for a product whether it’s a car or a flight sim game and I didn’t get what I paid for.
Lastly I wasn’t asked by the developers of this game to be a guinea pig for testing their technology. If so, I wouldn’t have paid for that privilege. Thats what upsets me the most, we have all paid a premium to test this broken ‘car’ in order to fix it. I’m 57 by the way and I attribute my greying hair to 4 years of flight simming and a nice reverse mohawk caused by VR headsets. To all the VR enthusiats you know what I’m talking about. :joy:

I can agree with you about broken car comparison.
But today software is functioning like that.
I have a friend and cousin who are developers. I am also IT enthusiast, someone who isn’t professional in IT, but I have mediocre knowledge and interest in IT.
When I complain to them how today software is released with bugs and unfinished, but at same time developers have high salaries, they say it is how it works today. It is a complex thing, we can’t make everything works at 1st version and also depends from PC to PC, not all systems are the same.
And they are stuborn in that, they say it should be like that. I compared software to commercial aircraft, it is complex machine. So in 1st version it could get broke and crush, but untill next version is done, no help.
Also it flies in cold and hot weather, in rain, snow, day and night. What is even worse, it is not rare that after one updats, things that were working, gets broken.

But maybe developers aren’t to blame 100%, maybe 20%, I blame more those who are pushing them to release unfinished software.

My last rant for today

Well after a full clean uninstall (using Revo Uninstaller) and reinstalling MSFS2024 fresh there has been nil difference to the performance of the game. Didn’t mind having to rebind all my throttle and yoke systems and change some of the keyboard settings but what annoyed me is even with me doing this the game has a mind of its own and still applied bindings that I removed. As well as options I disabled, such as chat to txt, made no difference. I still had the AI ATC, that I had also disabled, pop up in front of my eyes constantly.

The worst part was I have spent the last 5.5 hours doing this and every time I tried to install and prepare a flight (right up to Push and Start) I kept getting CTD’s. (Using the Fenix A320 that is supposed to be compatible) I even removed all content from the community folder and still no difference.

I’m going back to 2020.

I feel deflated and ripped off. Heres the thing I was one of those that purchased the Aviator version on a pre order before release date and when it was released I installed it along with 5 million others and after several days of disappointment I requested a refund and it was paid back to me within a day.

So I kept viewing posts, updates on Youtube and this forum and mostly I started to get the view that things had got a lot better with the last major update, (thanks Sim…ger) with the caveat that there was a lot still to do to improve things. So I decided to give it another go. Instead I purchased the Premium Deluxe version this time.
Well I have tried for the last 2 days and have only been able to fly the Fenix A320 twice but have tried most of the aircraft in the game with all of them not getting off the ground. (about 50 attempts. yesterday I tried for 17hours to get it working.

So i don’t believe its my PC causing this.

I agree and they should say that flight sim is experimental because it always has been. They have always pushed the limits. An upfront remark about this would be nice but aren’t most simulations experimental? Isn’t that what differentiates it from a game?

Actually, they’re getting what they deserve, as relative as this statement can be.

re bindings when you set them up you can make sure they don’t change again if you use the cog beside the setting name and select “set as default”, you can then make those changes propagate across every other aircraft by using the cog and selecting “apply to all aircraft”.
Same goes for is you want to select MSFS2020 bindings instead of FS2024. Just select the 2020 bindings and then do the same “set as default” and “apply to all aircraft”.

You have to do this for keyboard as well as HOTAS or any other peripheral you are using, as they are all mapped individually.

Be sure to give each setup a memorable name as the default one if you leave it as default can get multiple copies of the same name being auto generated if you change a binding. This I think is one of the most confusing aspect of the FS2024.

Re

It is, and I’ve been flying it pretty much continuously in FS2024. It hasn’t caused a CTD yet. I have an older generation of your setup. 5950x, 3090, 64GB RAM not using VR though. Latest NVidia drivers, Win11 24H2.

Also are you using the latest Fenix uodate as it’s had a few patches recently for FS2024.

I’d say with CTD’s make sure you are not adding too much content into your community folder. Just add in a small a amount at a time. Also if you have local 3rd party copies of some of the premium airports in fs2024 be sure to remove the premium ones in the sim (you can do this now since last update).

This sounds good in theory, but I have done this innumerable times and I still get the default bindings most times when I begin a new flight. Or even “None” on occasion.

yes it’s hard to get on top of admittedly especially if you change aircraft. I ended up repeating it on several aircraft and it finally seems to be fine. You do have to go hunt for the auto saved version of control profiles and delete all of them so there is only one remaining. (Apart from the default ones that you can’t delete). You also have to go set up helis the same way, but separate from aircraft. It’s admittedly not a very user friendly system. Took me two whole weeks to get used to it, and I still have questions about it!

On further investigation it seems an issue with German Telekom customers and there is a work around.

Hi Microsoft and Asobo Team

it’s the 15th of December 2024 end after a few days of trial and error with a few reinstalls I finally have a running MSFS2024. Even my “Telekom” Bandwith issue is gone. And man is this a stunning grafical experience. Honestly the the new lighting system is awesome, just had a flight towards the upcomming sun. WOW just WOW. Yes it might not be all perfect yet inside the simulataor but it’s working kinda alright for me. Many thanks MS / Asobo for the latest Patches. I know they not working for some folks out there but thats just the nature of the beast.

Can we please have a light expience, where all the “bells and whisles” are turned off? The walking around, removing house size covers over the engines, the INSANE ui made for visually impaired people and 3year olds, the camera movement going out of the plane anytime i want to open te menu to change a keybinding.
You wanted to make the client light, but instead its a circus.

I know how product release works. My former job at a low level in a big company where we usually got it right due to good management. Management naturally is pushing to release - I have to believe there were some heated arguments about the release date within Asobo management with lower level folks who know the actual state of unreadiness arguing for a few more weeks to fix the most glaring bugs.

Just one example: I can’t even fly some of these planes in RL weather since the visibility of gauges in dark weather is so bad. Any developer involved would certainly know that. I assume they take a look at the results of every minor code change since their jobs depend on results. But before they can fix it they are directed to work on some other aspect that management thinks is more important. Game things like “Challenges” instead of realism.

Whatever happens, I hope the financials are a great sucess for everyone involved since future support of this product depends on profitability.

Absolutely love what they’ve done with the airports, jetways look great! (Kansai Aiport) Must be the power of AI.
