Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Sim Update 4 Beta build 1.6.21.0 - Pressing alt+4 quits the sim but leaves a process running in background

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

When I press alt+f4 to quit the sim, Flightsimulator2024.exe remains in the background and won’t exit, unless ended by task manager.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

All the time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

    1. Open the sim and load to a free flight session.
      1. When the aircraft is running and on ground, press alt+f4 to quit the application
      2. Now check task manager. There will be a flight simulator 2024 process. running.
    2. This does not happen in sim update 3

Do you have any 3rd-party addons that communicate with MSFS 2024?

I can’t recreate the issue, but I think Smothery is on to something. If there is a process that connects with the sim, it could lock it.

Overall, Alt-F4 is not a great idea as it does not close the sim ‘gracefully’ and can lead to problems with config files. This applies to every Windows application, and there have been loud voices calling to remove that option from Windows.

If you leave msfs using the regular “Quit to Desktop” functionality are you experiencing the same issue ?
