It’s a sad letter day for VR users. :(.
VR USERS UNITE and let Microsoft and Asobo know we want VR SUPPORT!
Great! My HP Reverb G2 headset is going the way of my Surface RT, my MS Band, my Windows Phones, Cortana and my Cortana device, my Surface headphones, my … (not sure I’ve accounted for everything I’ve had deprecated by MS).
Edit_Update: Oh, yeah! There’s also the Kinect that I got with my Xbox One…
If MSFS is not availabe in VR I for one will not use it. VR is the only reason I use it. And like you, though I have quite a bit of addons etc. invested in it right now, I will not be getting anything new until I see long term VR solution.
I spent the last year struggling with my G2 and then discovered that Bluetooth signals were messing with it as well as some USB power issues. Now it’s fixed it is actually an amazing headset. I always thought it was terrible till it wasn’t.
could you elaborate a bit, what exactly that means? “blue tooth signals messing with it”. In what way? What were you experiencing exactly? I am curious
First discovered was that the little mini glitches that had plagued me were to do with my poorly thought through USB set up. I had bought two USB powered hubs and chucked everything into them and plugged em in and just figured powered = good. While programming a Loupedeck Live in SPAD Next recently, I got a notification saying that my TPR pedals were messing with it somehow. Their cable does have one of those little power……capsule things on it - I’m clearly no expert. So I tried running it straight to the motherboard and it did make a difference to the frequency of the glitches. So I did a full on overhaul of all USB devices. I bought a PCIe USB 3.2 card and plugged only the headset into that so it has its own controller separate from the others. I looked up my mobo co troller layout and made some choices about which devices were going where, divided the powered hubs up and put all devices that just need power straight into the mains. And that banished the small glitches completely.
The big freezes started to remind me of when the controllers disconnected, how it freezes the screen. So I turned off Bluetooth in the computer and phone and all 2.4ghz devices (smart lights in my room) and the main culprit it turns out - the Logitech headset dongle plugged into my pc.
All freezes gone. I am now introducing settings back in I had taken out cos I thought they were causing the problems!
I’m pretty sure VR will still be available in MSFS for non-WMR headsets like the Q3. Check out what Russ Barlow is doing with his home cockpit. It’s really slick. Mixed reality VR without using WMR.
I certainly support the idea, to demand from MS that we should be able to use the hardware, that we paid a great ammount of money for, in the future. It is realy ridiculus, that with one move, they can potentially make a number of devices, people all over the world are enjoying, useless… And they have a decency to call themselves “green”, “Greta Tunberg compliant” or whatever…
I believe, there will be enough angry G2 users out there, to influence MS to provide proper support for that hardware in the future.
I personaly don’t care if it will be WMR portal, or just some proper drivers that will be a simple interface for other platforms, but providing something, that will allow the headset to be used in a way it was designed for is something that we can simply demand.
MS have no obligation to continue support for devices bought from 3rd parties…and have a LONG history of dropping products the second they become non-profitable or non-strategic.
Think on that before shelling out for MsFs2024…
It’s very simplified view. The WMR was the essential part of the platform we have bought and it is required to run the hardware. It was a mutual effort to make these VR headsets avaliable on the market and sold to substantial number of users, of MS and other vendors. These devices did not come with their own ecosystem, but WMR integrated. MS is responsible for what happens to these VR sets now.
Well the other headset manufacturers (Pimax, Varjo, Pico, Meta) has their own software, but HP decided to use WMR and You also bought the headset from HP. Than I think this is HPs fault.
The only HP’s fault could be that the decided to cooperate with a partner (MS), that ditched on them years later. Those headsets woudn’t appear on the market if not active engadgement and marketing of MS, so they are now responsible for keeping them alive in the same way as those who produced them.
Strange thing is HP is still selling the Omnicept on their website.
An incredibly hard working and on the ball employee in Microsoft replied to UploadVR:
"As of Nov. 1, 2026 for consumers and Nov. 1, 2027 for commercial customers, Windows Mixed Reality will no longer be available for download via the Mixed Reality Portal app, Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR, and Steam VR beta, and we will discontinue support.
[…]
Existing Windows Mixed Reality devices will continue to work with Steam until users upgrade to a version of Windows that does not include Windows Mixed Reality."
My G2 will be likely be faulty, broken and gathering dust alongside my Zune long before then.
3 years is not that long, you know… If you respect your equipment, there is no reason for it to break during that time. And if it happens, it can still be send to an independent repair shop be fixed.
I just read that news, I’m shocked! Why Microsoft has to destroy anything?
I was using the full version of skype, i remember i was able to call people around the world just searching them on the search bar and i knew so many people, then Microsoft bought it and it become useless, then I was enjoying Altspace vr, creating vr worlds and then Microsoft bought it, after a few years Microsoft destroyed it too, now Windows mixed reality?
Gentlemen i feel like cheated, the nice of flight simulator was VR, now without vmr how can we play to the new flight simulator 2024? Why should I buy it? I don’t like the 2d version on a screen, i want feel immersed in my vr world and be there flying like in a real life, VR helped me to improve my ability solving some problems with my flight school in a real world, and finally i become a pilot, it’s too much useful for real pilots so seriously I don’t understand why destroy something like that and devolve to a Pitiful screen tv or monitor…
The best for us is to stay together and make Microsoft hear our laud frustrated voice!
Windows BOB?
and you’ll probably have gone through your 4th or 5th power/video cable for the G2 as well…
From now on I will no longer buy anything from the marketplace. Microsoft should feel its decision financially.
