Microstutter FBW

I just found this topic after coming back to MSFS for the first time in about 2 months to do some testing with SU10 and FSLTL on my machine. I noticed microstutters on TO and landing and blamed it on FSLTL, then realized it was there without it turned on. I then blamed it on DX12, but it was there switching to DX11. Then I flew to a rural airport, and the microstutters were still there. Finally, I switched out of that to virtually every other plane (ex HD787, Salty, PMDG, Fenix, H-Jet, CJ4, etc, etc) and there were no stutters. Everything glass smooth locked to 35 FPS. Trying to find a FBW solution, I found this thread.

Thanks to FBW for all of the efforts to fix it. I use the FBW on about 80% of my flights and just love it, so please let us know if there is anything we non-programmers in the community can do to help identify or test elements. Thank you!

If you can provide a short video of screenshot of the MSFS FPS counter it would help.

Really appreciatte the FBW A32NX, love the great improvement over stock, but I also experience stutters, video trying to capture them, microstutters appear in general, and bigger ones can be seen on: 1:08 1:42 1:56

PMDG 738 in similar route for comparison

Try DLSS with DLAA, I know it can cause blurry screens but if the microstutters disappear it will indicate the need to relieve load on the mainthread for you current settings. If you still get them then it’s likely the aircraft is causing it. I’m not up with the specs but if it isn’t the 9400F I suggest you upgrade to the fastest cpu your mainboard supports or better still upgrade your PC to match your gpu.

Also just 16GB of ram with the resource heavy FBW suggests excessive file swapping in virtual memory.

thanks for the recommendations, have tried with DLSS and also DLAA, reduces microstutters, but the bigger ones (1sec) continue happening.
Also cannot withstand the blurryness of DLSS or the lack of proper antialiasing of DLAA, and while PMDG is smooth will not go through the upgrade pc route.

They’re working on a performance overhaul (and much more) update that will end these stutters once and for all. From my understanding, they’re like 80% done. We shall see that update on the Dev version around 2023.

I have the same sutters with A32NX (5800X3D / 3080 TI). You should post these videos on the FBW Discord.

No problem it’s entirely your choice.

Thank you all for the feedback and recordings.

We definitely need to be running much less code to do what we’re doing. Lots of work going towards that, just hard to do when in alpha and things are moving around.

Hope the new ND makes it to experimental soon enough.

Hello there and Happy New Year !

Would there perhaps be an update with regard to addressing the micro-stutters we have been discussing in this post ? The recently released stable version did not make a difference on my system but have not yet tried the latest development version.

Have now tried the latest development version, sadly the stutters are still there, same as before, sudden deep drops in GPU usage.

After a lot of testing with two kind and patient users on Discord (who suffered through the dozens of different files I sent them to test), we have potentially isolated a major stutter problem to a particular area of the code.

We are evaluating what we can do to mitigate the issue as it impacts something non-trivial to fix.

This is great news, many thanks for persevering, the aircraft is great and it would be wonderful if this annoyance goes away !

Glad you got testers helping you out and i’m thankful and excited that this is being sorted out.

The A32NX is still my favorite airliner…even though i had to uninstall it…hence the thread title issue.

Crossing fingers you’ll find the culprit.

Great, thank you for having a detailed look into that topic, i think all of us appreciate your hard work!

Greets,
Markus

Thank you for the work. I was checking on Discord recently and one FBW team member there said they weren’t aware of a sutter issue, which I found suprising, but I’m glad to hear it’s still on the radar and being worked on. Thanks!

I have the same problem. Not now but at least the last 6 months. Micro stutters during taxu, take-off, during the flight and landing, what you say is 100% true buecause all the stutters occur with a drop of the GPU usage.

I reported the issue several times in the FBW Discord page, but somehow they always tell me that probably is me having the issue and not them. I hope they can fix it because its clearly not an issue from the usser but from the developer itself.

I love the FBW airbus, its a fantastic aircraft and what the FBW team is doing is something awesome, specially when the product is freeware :white_heart:

It really isn’t clearly anything of the sort.

I think this may be coming down to how the add-on is mixing the engine’s takeoff sounds. I see a similar stutter when applying engine power a bit abruptly. It seems to always happen once the engine spools up and hits 50% N1 at which point the engine sound note changes but the sim stutters as the engine’s sound transitions. I’ve found that you don’t get as much of a severe stutter when you advance the engine slowly instead.

Not sure of what is causing it, but your video looks similar to what I’ve seen.

I also have the PMDG 737-800 and I do not see any stutter. We will see if this gets fixed either on the next sim update or A32NX release from FBW.

Multiple fixes for this are currently in testing and should be available soon.
