MIDI devices as flight controls

There are a large number of devices able to send and receive MIDI CC messages. MIDI controllers like the DJ Tech Tools MIDI fighter twister and the Ableton Push 2 would in theory make great controllers for a flight sim. But there are also cheaper alternatives to let players get access to 0-255 step, tactile controls and as many programmable buttons as they want.

It would be awesome if MSFS could listen for devices like this and let us map functions to incoming signals.

I would love to see this as well. I use a Behringer Xtouch Mini and it would be fantastic to be able to use it in Flight Simulator natively without having to hack something together with vJoy/midi2vjoy.

I haven’t tried it yet, but Lorby AxisAndOhs claims to support MIDI in some fashion. I’ll give it a try and report back.

I got the XTouch mini setup and running just fine! Have a look at the thread: Behringer X-Touch mini works flawless

The freeware Midikey2Key works at least for keypresses with buttons and can produce sim commands of MIDI controlled turning knobs/pots based on keypresses.

I actually use Lorby AxisandOhs, but it would be great not to have to start yet another app. It just sends and receives MIDI info, so it hopefully wouldn’t be that difficult.

It works. Although it can sometimes take some fiddling to find the right event or variable to modify. Would be nicer if it could just work like a keybind does.

As it is, I have Altitude adjustment, trim, prop and fuel condition mapped.

Spad.next will also accept MIDI input.

I am looking forward to flying my Airbus A310 using my digital saxophone. As jazz as it gets.

Hah, what do you use? I’ve always considered getting an EWI, but there’s a lot of other stuff out there now.

I noticed that SPAD was picking up my keyboards when I plugged them in. It would be interesting to see the results. Maybe someone could create a lightbar like in Close Encounters, that you could trigger with note-on signals. Haha.

I have a Behringer X-Touch Mini. Sends and receives MIDI info. Has 8 rotary knobs, 16 buttons, and a slider.

A basic implementation would be for the sim to receive the MIDI information. Even better would be if it could send MIDI info as well, as my X-Touch can use that to illuminate and/or flash the buttons.

Yamaha YDS 120. Primarily for practicing quietly with the exact same fingering that the real sax uses.
