I’ve been annoyed with my chair rolling backwards when I depress the toe brakes.
But I didn’t want to use locking casters that required me to depress a lever on the caster itself.
I found these, and they made a huge difference. Unweight the chair, and it moves where I want. Sit down and it locks in place.
Make sure you buy the compression brake version, not the decompression version.
Also, you need to know the type and dimensions of your existing casters when you order. I bought them direct from Service Caster Corporation, and they have a detailed explanation on how to do that on their website.
I also just bought a glass chair mat. With the new brake casters it should be a winning combo.
I just used a scrap of particle board, cut a hole for the front caster and attached the pedals to that. If I need to move the chair, just lift it 1/4" and move.
I have endless issues with sim chairs. I’ve got the locking casters already, but it’s more the back pain I get sitting too long. I’m actually thinking about buying a good quality car seat and mounting it - those are designed to be sat in for a long time by people operating pedals and wheels and the ergonomics should be better than with an office chair. I tried ‘gaming chairs’, but they were the worst for me.
What I do is move my chair horizontally into position. The casters are then at 90 degrees to my desk, and sitting on carpet it offers enough friction from all 5 that it doesn’t move an inch.
Not a bad idea for everyone with veins in their legs.
Sitting for long periods increases the risk of thrombophlebitis, and at worst, thromboembolisms. Not how you want to end a flight.
