I had done the same yesterday, for 2 Teensy-based joysticks (Teensy is an Arduino-like device). I noticed that in the old files the text “PlatformAvailability=1” was missing; presumably, unknown joysticks had their profiles purposely hidden by the update. In addition to your explanations, after having restored the profiles, I deleted the old subdirectories so as to ease a future need to sort out the profiles; no issue after sim restart.

Amazing thank you. I use mouse to vjoy with freepie, and this helped me restore settings back again…if I aint broke - dont fix it?!!
