im not suprised since thats not a file the game has (store version doesnt anyway, i cant speak for the steam version, its possible steam adds this file for its launcher? idk)
check your sources, you may have gotten the wrong file name, but after a search of all installation folders i can say there is no such file for msfs in my install (ms store win10 su9)
For which addon is the xml for?
Weird statement , as the OP points to the exact location where the EXE.XML file should be located.
Store version here as well
and you show several files that dont belong there, i dont have Any of those Copy files OR that EXE.xml so
yes i would guess maybe you installed some app or addon that changed these and made copies of main files? i have no idea but i assure you i Dont Have any exe.xml
this would have to be some Major addon to even Mess with install files, the Whole point in having the Community folder addon system is so we Dont actually edit the official files at all
sec ill figure out how to link a pic
You are correct, I generated those copy files myself (CTRL+C and then CTRL+V) = BU of these files.
That way I track the changes, some addons make
I leave that discussion to developers
PS the exe.xml file resides outside the community folder. It is used hower to launch some addons/programs
EDIT: this appears to be a lagit addon control file, it is not anything to worry about
i would be cautious and suspicious of addons that add/edit files to this directory
especially if they dont tell or ask you, ive not heard af anything that do but that is a possibility i guess
Wrong. exe.xml is indeed a game file and is used to launch certain things along with the game itself. It is located at “C:\Users\XXXXXXXX\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache”
you Do realize you posted an Addon File right?
the good news is we Now know where the file comes from, it appears some addons that have ingame menu’s add/use it, probably for launching these ingame menu’s or apps from the look of that file
again its Not part of the base game afaik (if it where i would have it as well)
but ty for the pic that helps
Well, I just did a clean install saterday, and cannot remember whether the file is there at first launch or it gets installed when it is used by an addon developer to launch some program.
This would help the OP
my pic proves its not installed by the game, i did not delete it or anything and thats a basic working default installation
so it would have to be created by the addons from what i can tell
ive installed multiple times and i visit this folder quite often for bush trip saves and other reasons, ive never seen or heard of this file until now
So basicly the OP is looking for a file that is not installed yet, hence he cannot find it
I just copied it from another thread on here. Here is mine.
I am pretty sure it is a default game file, but maybe not, but if it isn’t, the game was definately designed to use it.
i agree, its Not a ‘default game file’ but it seems obvious these programs need and use it for simconnect and starting background apps
you dont need it if you dont have these extra/specific apps installed - as i said my game works fine without it but i dont own Skypark, fs2Crew or w/e and i dont use Spad.neXT
It was already used in the days of FSX/P3D
ty nice to have the knowledge of where it came from and what it does
i will edit that statement, we have seen this file is Not spam or anything, its a lagit addon file thats used by outside apps - so i was being overly cautious there since i was not sure where it could have come from
Well the idea is to help the OP.
I also think that the file is a default game file. However not shure
Is it possible that it gets intercepted by a real-time AV scanner?
In its default form (no addons) it does not harm the sim when not present.
Just guessing
I Googled exe.xml, and apparently it has been around since t least FSX and also used by Prepared3d. It appears to be unique to flight sim games. I will backup mine and see if it gets rebuilt on a restart the next time I launch.
to me ‘default file’ is something the game or program itself adds - in that sense it is not or i would have it in my ‘default installation’ (its also not mentioned in the sdk docs but that doesnt really mean anything)
but i would guess its an ‘officially accepted file’ that the game does use
doubtful (since its just a text file not an executable) but the app it calls may
could it be quarantined for calling them? i have no idea
