Brief description of the issue:

MSFS behaves like I am running it for the first time then hangs if I select update now. If I choose to update later, It shows an x-box control with the pad assignments, but in one of the five setup screens, it lists my mouse, keyboard, 3d extreme joystick and Saitek Pro Flight Quadrant. I can fly, save flights and see flights I already saved, but my 700 hour plus logbook is missing and the “elevator music” plays when I am not flying. The five setup screens show up every time I run MSFS.
Provide Screenshot(s)/video(s) of the issue encountered:

This is what shows when I do choose to upgrade immediately

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

Start up MSFS as administrator. Regardless of whether I update immediately or later, the out of focus screen along with the ANNOYING elevator music persists unless I close MSFS from the tray or from the task manager.
PC specs and/or peripheral set up if relevant:

I do not see the need for repeating the specs or peripheral setup they have not changed since yesterday when MSFS ran just fine. I have been running MSFS almost every day and this is the first time this has happened. More relevant is why this is something that must be resolved. My wife is in long term memory care and I use MSFS as therapy to replace the planned traveling retirement that was deleted due to her health. That log book is important to me and I want it back!

Hi @HairyBuddha7157,
I moved your topic to User Support Hub User Interface & Activities for community support.

Hi HairyBuddha7157,

Have you seen this Zendesk article: How to get past the “Checking for Updates” screen?

If none of the articles on their PC Windows 10|11 Troubleshooting & Support page help, I’d suggest opening a support ticket with them - click on “Submit a Request” located at the top-right of their support page.

Also make sure your status is “Online”:

Thank you for the info. I watched an entire movie while waiting for the files to get downloaded again and it is still in progress. I read in the forum that several others have the same problem beginning 3/3. Something broke between Saturday and Sunday. Rather than push Dune 2 expansion, developers should focus on validating fixes they make to the base software.

Thank you. I note that I am not the only person with this problem that began on 3/3. I hope they identify and fix the change that caused this.

Thank you. After deleting and forcing the reinstall, everything is back to normal. Very time consuming and not something I look forward to doing when this happens again(and with MSFS it will based on my experience).

@ HairyBuddha7157:
Glad all is OK now. The Zendesk website should be in everyone’s web browers’ favotites list! :magic_wand:
