Mission end not possible bcs engine does'nt shut down

After a successful fire attack mission with the Airtractor AT 802, you reach the final parking position and get the message “Turn off the engine with CTRL-SHIFT-E.” But it doesn’t work. Not even after waiting 5 minutes (to cool down?). The engine is idling, and no input will turn it off. In the cockpit, I can see that the fuel valve is in the OFF position, the mixture lever won’t slide back; it keeps snapping back to “Rich.”
This is very annoying; I have to abort a successful mission. And it’s surprising that this behavior sometimes doesn’t occur, (roughly 1 out of 10) it’s seems to be random. I haven’t yet figured out how this might be related to specific missions or dedicated circumstances.

Hi @StrohSchema7980 ,

Thank you for this report. We’ve moved your topic into the User Support Hub.

The Bug Reporting Hub is for posting suspected or confirmed bugs that other users are able to reproduce without duplicating an existing bug report. Using the template or providing all the relevant information about your bug and sim setup is required in order to provide valuable information, feedback, and replication steps to our test team.

If you are not sure if your issue is a bug or need further input from the community, please use the User Support Hub category. If the community can replicate your issue, first search the Bug category to see if there’s an existing topic. If it already exists, contribute to that report. Duplicate bug reports will be closed.

If you believe it is a new report and no duplicate exists, then create a new bug topic using the provided topic template.

All issues caused by or involving third-party addons/mods should be reported to the third-party developer. Assure that no addons/mods are used when reporting issues in Bug Reports.

I hit already similar situation with some GA A/C, but managed each time to stop the engine by pressing a second time the shutdown command on my joystick after a few seconds, or by turning off power and contact key directly, which ended succesfully the mission.

However, I did not try yet with this particular airplane you mention

But I agree there’s something not crystal clear here, as if you had to wait a little bit before shuting down the engine, in order for it to be taken into account in the mission end

This has happened to me multiple times on the VIP missions with the CJ4 quite a while back. After CTRL-SHFT-E the engine would keep idling and I went outside the plane and checked that the engine was indeed running and the mission would not end.

My solution was to hit CTRL-E to do engine start again and then manually switch off the engines with the provided engine switches, and not doing CTRL-SHFT-E.

thanks, I’ll try this workaround.

But this is only one of the multiple nonsense bugs I had with the AT 802. Another bug is that immediately after touching down on the runway the engine simply stops. I had only moved the throttle to idle during approach and the fuel was still at 38%. This bug appeared also in free flight.

yes, it worked. After entering CTRL - E, the fuel valve was in the OPEN position. Simply switch it to CLOSED and the engine stopped. Thanks again.

Thanks, hispdtortoiz, your workaround has solved the topic problem, but . . .

. . . since you’re obviously smart in finding creative solutions, I have a new bug for you; perhaps you can help here as well. Regarding the engine not shutting down, there is a new (old) bug (fire mission with the AT 802) that, ironically, does the opposite. During the final approach, just before touching down on the runway, the engine shuts down without any input. The throttle is in idle at the beginning of the final and is then untouched. Fuel is always more than 50%, and it always happens more or less 80 m before the threshold. Not always; it’s random, about 1 in 10 approaches. I have the impression that the flaps have something to do with it, as I often lower the flaps from halfway to full on short final. Immediately afterwards the engine stops. (which of course makes no sense) Most of the time I don’t reach the threshold with the engine stopped, which means this mission is aborted too.

Do you have an idea for this new bug too? (If so, I’ll write a manual: “How can I work around the many FS24 bugs”)

I tried a few firefighting missions with the AT 802, but could not reproduce the scenario. The aircraft is landing properly and engines are not shutting down.

May be you can check if any key is mapped to the fuel cutoff as well as some other airplane operation like flaps, landing gear etc. Or keep an eye on that red fuel cutoff selector if that is flipping at some point.

Also the flaps on the Air Tractor are quite large and generate significant lift and drag. So I normally deploy full flap config a bit early to get a stabilized approach while landing and don’t need to go full idle until I am almost on the runway.

Thank you again for more hints.

Thanks to your reminder to pay attention to the key bindings, I found something crucial. “Lowering flaps” and “reduce mixture” were bound to one control input. That couldn’t have worked. I cleaned up those inputs, and hallelujah, everything is fine. The engine no longer shuts off during approach.

As a test, I didn’t retract the flaps after landing, and hallelujah again, the engine can be shut off as usual with CTRL-SHIFT-E.

I’ve never been a fan of the new FS24 UI. But the fact, that this UI has so many surprises in store… annoying, I’m still shaking my head.

Glad that it’s sorted!
