Im using DLSS and the display of 2020/2024 looks very slightly blurred close up. I have 4090/HDR monitor.
Is TAA expected to give clearer display than DLSS?
There are so many settings that im unsure what i should choose before i start changing settings.
My monitor also has HRD and HDR Game mode - not sure what difference is.Thanks for any help
In FS2020 TAA was definitely sharper than DLSS. DLSS is a lower res rendering that is then upscaled to your output res (primarily used to relieve GPU load on slower GPUs). TAA isn’t, so more GPU will be getting used, but with a 4090 I’d have thought you’d be fine with TAA.
I have a 3090 and I’m using DLSS (performance) in FS2024 at 4K. Visually to me it’s just as sharp as TAA, but there are a few minor visual/graphical things in DLSS I see still like the occasional odd white outline in cockpit dashboard contours, and perhaps slightly blurry altitude readout when climbing and descending.
I’m also using HDR but outputting to a OLED 4K TV.
Thanks very much.Looks like i should try taa.
Hi, made the switch from Series X to PC last week. TAA looks best to me so far on in both sims. I’m leaving FG off and fine with those choices. Outputting to an old Samsung Q80 with Freesync/Game Mode ON. Would V-Sync ON in sim be the correct/corresponding setting to the Q80? Further, in 2024 I have left Dynamic On at the default 30 FPS. Any conflicts/comments?
All this looks great so far and very smooth, so just want to get some experienced eyes-on these and any other related video settings. Also, I am not making these choices based on observing PC frame rates, as my user experience satisfaction is not based on numerical values, coming from 2+ years of fun on Xbox. I want a smooth looking and crisp handling flight experience, not a never-ending FPS shoot-out over frame rates that takes me away from why I switched to PC.
Here’s the set-up: Ryzen 7 9800X3D; 5070 Ti 16GB with the latest driver this week; 64 GB RAM; etc. all the right gamer components folks here recommend and built at a MicroCenter. Works great so far, just finding my way through the thicket of sim settings available on PC.
3840x2160 default left alone;
Off screen terrain pre set to LOW in 2020 and default ULTRA in 2024 (should I change these?);
Left both default LODs at 150;
Displacement Mapping OFF;
Buildings, clouds, textures, airports/traffic all ULTRA;
Trees, rocks, grass, roads, fauna, etc. all HIGH;
Water waves MEDIUMl;
Shadows…Occlusion all HIGH;
Raytraced shadows OFF
Glass cockpit refresh rate HIGH
Thanks for your helpful posts in recent months and thanks in advance for taking a look!
Congrats on the new system, I’m sure you will really enjoy being on PC. You can call me envious as my system is now 4 years old. How time flies!
I don’t think you are going to be having too many issues turning your sim settings up to ultra on most tbh.
What is your refresh rate on the Q80? 120Hz?
About the only thing I do is always lock VSYNC first to a multiple of refresh rate so 120Hz (50%) = 60FPS, or 120Hz (33%) = 40FPS. These are targets and may fall short in some scenarios. It’s worth trying though.
If I had your system I’d try it on defaults, then I would try it on 120Hz (33%) targeting a steady 40FPS in all scenarios like busy airports with traffic and rain. Then I’d add in frame gen to target 80 or 120FPS.
But just compare that to defaults and see what you prefer. Many peopel just let their FPS float where it happens to be, but I’m not one of those people.
The Dynamic LOD/FPS target in FS2024 I have left OFF, as I hate the sim determining FPS in this way. It seems to just aggressively ramp down LOD’s to meet FPS, which can looks bad at times, so it’s an OFF for me.
Have you updated to DLSS 4 and Preset ‘K’?
I’ve found that I can be pretty happy with DLSS Quality and good LOD numbers once I did that. (I don’t use the nVidia App, but supposedly you can use it to do both.)
I use DLSS Swapper and nVidia Profile Inspector (along with a downloadable XML file) instead. It’s a bit of a process, but this explains it pretty well.
Smeared digits and letters on moving text completely turned me off DLAA.
I wanted to use it to fix the jaggy contrails on high attitude planes, but the blurry speed and altitude tape, for example, was a big detractor.
Thanks for the notes! It has been a weekend of monkeying with settings and flying in both 2020 and 2024, now out of beta. Ok so the Q80 is only 60Hz, so I have left the default 100% VSYNC lock. Also left the Dynamic default target of 30 FPS in 2024, which seems to be working just fine. Of course, this is not present in 2020, but things running smoothly there as well. It turns out that the Freesync in the Q80 is AMD specific, so it was useful paired with the Series X but I turned it off in the Q80 since it isn’t doing anything with the Nvidia output. No biggie! Cheers.
Ah freesync, yeah I have that enabled on my lg oled currently, should I disable it if I have an nvidia card?
Oh and welcome to PC, I’m fairly new as well having built mine in January.
Actually, I have it back on in the Q80 set at Ultra (whatever that means for Samsung) and everything is working great. Today is the first day I have dared to look at frame rates and they are amazing, bumping up against 60 FPS which is all the Q80 handle. I’ve got most settings at High and all the ray tracing stuff turned off, as I don’t need that on for flying.
Yeah reading around actually think it’s ok leaving freesync enabled on the tv.
I still fiddle a lot with the settings, sometimes not a good thing, lol. As I spend less time flying.
I try to only change one setting per flight and have settled on most of them set to high, with a few mediums. Left the default TLOD/OLOD at 150. Turned HDR10 on as it didn’t look as good as Series X output with it off. Leaving PG off most of the time but I may play with that a little more now that I’m happy with TAA and dynamic between 30-60 FPS.
I may give TAA a try myself, do you use frame gen with it?
No need to disable - if VRR is turned on at the Windows & driver level the video card will negotiate with the monitor the best VRR method to use.
Nope, no FG, don’t need it and the DLSS, DLAA, all look terrible to me on the instrument panel.
