Hi everyone - I have the Dell 32in QHD 165hz gaming monitor connected to a 2070S and anytime I switch on the sim, the hz rate is all over the place (bouncing up and down from 80hz to 65 hz very quickly) which causes screen flickering when GSync is enabled. This behavior goes away when I go to the menu, other games, etc. I’m connected via a DP cable with 1.4 capabilities. If I turn g-sync off, it stays at 165hz at a constant. Should I just leave Gsync off? Trying to get the smoothest experience possible so I thought Gsync would provide that. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
I’m pretty sure those monitors are Freesynch for AMD cards, not Gsync. You may be trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Check out this article, which also has a link to the Nvidia site that lists freesynch monitors you MAY be able to use by fiddling with settings.
Ahhhh gotcha - yeah I knew Freesync was an AMD thing but thought it would work with Gsync on this monitor. Thanks for the reply! Really don’t feel like fiddling with it, so I’ll just leave it off. Thanks again!
Here’s one of the articles explaining. Forgot to add them to first post

I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic or not? I’ll assume you’re not:-
Your HZ is tied to your FPS when using variable refresh rate technology (g-sync or freesync). So, if your sim is bouncing between 40-50 frames per second, then it will sync with your HZ. Which means your hz will be between 40-50 as it matches your frames per second.
This is how it obtains the smoothness and eliminates the need for V-Sync.
However, some cheaper displays have a problem at lower hz, like you say, the screen flickers. This is caused by the lower Hz having a different brightness. Only remedy is to get a better display. If you can swap it, I would.
The flickering he is talking about may be as shown in the video on the page i linked, go to about 1:30 and it shows a non-validated Freesync monitor trying to use gsync.
Lol! I wasn’t being sarcastic hahaha - I didn’t think the Dell display was a cheap rig, more middle of the road - granted not the $1200 Alienware either. Your explanation makes complete sense. I appreciate you taking time to explain it! Given I don’t want to drop $1200 on a monitor right now, I’ll just keep the $500 Dell and disable GSync, as all in all, it is awesome as is. Again, I appreciate it!
