Monitors: Ultrawide vs Super Ultrawide vs Triple Monitors?

Well, I think the GPU is more of a factor right now, when you have an at least 10th Gen CPU (Intel):

https://www.gpucheck.com/en-usd/compare-game-cpu/microsoft-flight-simulator/intel-core-i5-9600k-3-70ghz-vs-intel-core-i7-12700k/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080

In general Benchmarks suggest strong dependency with higher resolutions. CPU seems to be less a factor (at least if it is not old)

Therefore, I would consider if you have a 12700k and a 3080/3080Ti/3090 you are on the current Level of what is a good state of the current technology.

TY! Sounds like a good suggestion.

Are you on “Ultra” Settings?

I ran three monitors with previous-gen sims and I’ll tell ya, bezels between the monitors are way worse than fisheye!

I have the CRG9

I bought your #1 a few months ago, after doing MSFS and Truck Sim for years. Game changer. I have ran the two monitors, put the bezel at the A pillar airbus and cessna (only ones I fly) but wide was way to go.

That’s how I am leaning at the moment…plus all of the pics I see online seem to just look better/smoother all around with a single Ultra or Super Ultra Wide

Yeah the bezels are a pain. Do you know if the fisheye will be addressed in ultrawide monitors? I certainly would prefer to keep this monitor if I can do away with fisheye.

Yes, I am pretty much on Ultra, LOD’s on 180 and I run in-sim Vsync with 30fps lock. Super smooth, no stutters at all.

I ran my Samsung CRG9 with a 5900x and an AMD RX6800 at high settings. Just upped my gpu to a 6950xt Wow!

The CRG9 is a 5120x1440 monitor that is GREAT with MSFS!

I have the G9 (5120×1440) and a 3090.
Almost everything at ultra. Renderscala 100+TAA. The 3090 can easily handle that. Max Vram usage in the beta (DX12) Ive seen is around 14GB.
My problem is my CPU (9700F - although it still does an impressive job) so in SU10 I had to set LoD to 100. Before I had it at 200ish.
Just flew the Fenix in ‘A Pilot’s Life ch.2’ and had 25-ish fps on the ground (cockpit) - hand made airport.

Im sitting close to the monitor and love the curvature of the G9. So yes, a 3090 can deal with msfs+superUW.
Will upgrade CPU later this year.

I’m using a 32" 4k center monitor with two 23" 1080P outboard “wings.” It works, but there’s no -per view- FOV adjustment, which renders it useless for me…at least until I get the two 23" units replaced.

Easy peasy in that “other” flight sim.

use a samsung 49’’ myself but it’s the C49RG94SSU with a curved radius of 1800R - not 1000R. i love it but i’m not playing in full screen anyways, so the fish-eye is a non issue on my side. the window is larger than wqhd though and i still have more than enough room for everything else. all of that, without those borders in the middle.

Here are a few shots, but I doubt they can do justice to the real thing as the vision is quite different. My screen measures 180cm x 105cm. You could also use short-throw projectors, but they will be a bit more expensive. On my right side I have two side by side GoFlight consoles with 14 modules and a 27" Dell monitor on which I run my EFB.

Oh and another thing about triple panels and MSFS’s version that can be mildly infuriating is that only the center panel is actionable as in your mouse can be on that button on the left or right panel but it wont do squat.

Funny thing about that, I found by accident one of my T16000 throttle hat switches is a cockpit scroll, it slides you back and forth across the cockpit like a typewriter carrier to the point I want to say ding when I slide over to the copilots side.

TY! The 14GB usage would mean that a 3080/3080ti may be not equipped with enough VRAM. Would you recommend to get the 3090 when using our Displayresolution and Renderscale 100+TAA? Looks like it would be better just because of more VRAM.

In addition, you noticed a higher requirement for performance with SU10 than before. 200 → 100 (LoD) is a big change in ordeer to get good FPS again.

Looks Great!
Thank You for sharing your setup

WOW…seems silly it does that…wonder if there will be a fix for that with the Multi monitor support happeneing…

The beta does not include any new changes or features relevant to wide or ultrawide screens or “fisheye” effects from very wide fields of view. (This is an inherent problem with standard rectangular 3-d projections at wide fields of view; the farther you get from the center of the picture, the greater distortions become. A wider field of view means things get more distorted because you’re going farther from the center.)

The new feature is purely to create additional output windows, which may be placed on separate monitors, each of which is rendered separately as a standard rectangular projection, with the same vertical field of view (ie assuming all monitors are the same physical height). All monitors must be placed such that they point directly at your eyepoint and roughly at the proper distance for angular size of depicted objects to be realistic to avoid distortion.
