First of all, thanks for the amazing work on MSFS 2024 and especially the new Walkaround feature – it really adds a lot to the immersion.
While using Walkaround and 3rd Person mode, I’ve noticed that players can sometimes get stuck on very small obstacles (like steps, curbs, or the gate area when trying to get back into the aircraft). At the moment, these small barriers can feel a bit frustrating.
Suggestion
Introduce a simple jump function (for example, bound to the space bar by default). This would allow players to easily step over small obstacles without breaking immersion, similar to how it’s handled in many other games.
Benefits
Makes Walkaround and 3rd Person exploration smoother
Prevents players from getting stuck on minor scenery details
Keeps immersion intact by allowing natural movement around the aircraft
I think this would be a small but very practical improvement to the overall user experience.
I hate to say it because of the complexity, but we need to be able to climb ladders or steps so we can step up onto mid or high wings to check fuel. Can’t visually check the fuel level a 172 from the ground, for example.
Agree with a few simple poses - thumbs up, wave, point.
Need to be able to sit - both on the ground and on objects.
A couple interactions with other avatars, like handshakes, a pat on the back, high-fives, or fist bumps (maybe require both players to consent).
Hopefully some more attention will be paid to this stuff as the performance issues get resolved via the sim updates. Obviously there are flight model, weather, and scenery issues to contend with as well, but there should be a balance. The more players (especially newer ones) get from interaction and immersion of their personality, the better the retention. Improving avatar mode could potentially go a long way toward that.
Otherwise, the sim is mostly asking new people to meet it at its level, which may seem necessary for us “core” simmers, but could seem stodgy to someone on the outside. It seems like it’d be a relatively low-cost opportunity to attract and/or retain more simmers and that means more business and more longevity for the sim.
