As of now, the sim rates available are powers of two, i.e. 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, etc.
Request we get 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x…etc. Most planes fly fine at 4x, but a number of planes have issues oscillating up/down or left/right at 8x. Would be nice to have more options.
Dear MSFS community,
A longstanding issue in flight simulation has resurfaced in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. When using a SimRate of 4x or higher, the physics engine and autopilot systems struggle to keep up. This often results in the autopilot becoming unresponsive, potentially leading to aircraft crashes or erratic flight behavior.
Interestingly, this issue was already present in FSX, where similar problems arose at higher SimRates. It would be great to see this addressed in MSFS2024 to improve the experience for all users.
My suggestion:
At a SimRate of 4x (or higher), the physics calculations should either:
- Be decoupled (e.g., using simplified aerodynamic modeling) to prioritize stability and ensure smooth operation, or
- Significantly simplified, so the autopilot can handle the increased computational demands without failing.
This would make the simulator much more reliable for long-haul flights and other scenarios where SimRate is heavily used, without sacrificing the enjoyment or efficiency of flying.
By addressing this, MSFS2024 can build on the legacy of its predecessors while overcoming a longstanding challenge in flight simulation.
What are your thoughts? Would you welcome such an improvement to the SimRate functionality?
Happy flying!
That would be great. Especially in msfs2024 is got worse
