Mountains definitely looking better (Pokhara - Jomsom Nepal)

That’s exactly what I am thinking. Not only the mesh resolution needs enhancement, but also the algorithm of the terrain surface to make the mountains look more ragged and pointy.

They are looking amazing, but there are LOD spikes occurring (shown here in the French Alps), and quite a lot of distant terrain ‘holes’.

Yes, the original post was “pre-update”, and there was no spike problem at this time. I don’t think spikes have something to do with the mesh itself, but more with the way some objects are treated at long distance (spikes appear around small lakes and rivers).

…Nepal has definitivly improved - checked with some other Real-Life-Mountain-POIs and its clear something is going on:

  • Kangchenjunga (IND) dito

  • Roraima-Table mountain (VEZ) : giant pyramids on top of plateau

  • Angel falls (VEZ): changed slightly, but not vertical by any means

  • Cerro Torre, Fitzroy (ARG); still non-existent

  • Canyon Sumidero (MEX): improved

  • Zambesi gorge (ZIM): changed somehow

  • Norwegian fjords: lakes elevation mismatch improved, cliffs not

  • Guatemala: beaucoup pyramids at mex-border

last not least, THE mountain:

  • Matterhorn (CH) has mutated into a double-peak

It’s cool, at least it doesn’t deteriorate as the water masking.
