Mouse Stops Interacting with the Virtual Cockpit

I am just going to keep complaining about this sim. As its my only outlet for my frustration. After a few cant click the controls flights. I gave up for a week and after this last update i decided MAYBE THIS time something might work. Now in the middle of my flight fuel went to zero and would not change so another flight not finished. This sim should never have been released before January. Its getting worse not better. Still at about 75% of all my flights never get to finish. This is just not acceptable.

I can confirm that moving the camera window pane to a different location on the screen has re-enabled the ability to click cockpit buttons and have full mouse control again as well.
This is in the A320Neo btw.
Could be just my setup, hope this helps someone.

What exactly do you mean? I don’t understand what you’re trying to explain you did.

This bug hit me again tonight 2-1/2 hours into a cross-country flight and nothing I tried fixed it. I saved the flight in progress and reloaded it, which did fix it, but caused me other issues with my planned route, arrival, approach, etc.

Double clicking the top of the ATC window has resolved it for me lately…

When I click on the camera option in the drop down menu, the camera window is displayed.
Eventually I get the ā€œunable to use cockpit buttonsā€ etc.
By moving the camera window box to another position on the screen, I was able to use the cockpit buttons again.
Just like dragging windows around on your desktop (if you retain the ability to see mouse cursor)

Thanks for the details. I did a lot of stuff with windows to try to trigger the mouse into working again — opened the ATC windows and clicked on some options, same with the VFR Map, and opened the Camera windows and clicked on several options there. I don’t think I actually tried moving the windows themselves though. I will definitely give that a try when this happens again.

I dont get the problem if I dont interact with the ATC or other menus in flight. I just let AI handle ATC communications.

This happened to me for the first time yrsterday. Mouse worked with floating bar but no buttons or knobs etc in cockpit. Only opening ATC window and repositioning fixed the issue.

After I click any button in instrument view moyyse pointer turns into like a blue eye piece and the axis mouse ctrls become totally erratic causing the screen to spiral every which way. It is impisdible to click on anything else, even difficult to click on Camers Reset menu button. I have wastched msny YouTube videos where camers movement is smooth and operates normalky even when reaching to overhead psnel. I have Zoom manual and toggle settings. Any suggestions to cure? I cannot do cold and dark cos after the battery is turned on I gave to fight the erratic movement before moving to next step and repeating process. Thanks

I also had this issue

Just today had this issue.

Was in the TBM and the left mouse click and zoom just randomly stopped responding.
When I hit the second monitor mouse worked fine there.

I have had this same bug since day 1, but now less regularly but suddenly just appeared today on my flight.

I tried ALT+ENTER, change view, hit the UI buttons and VFR map etc. but still left click unresponsive.

Had to ragequit.

It’s already patch#5 and ASOBO still hasn’t fixed this sim breaking bug…

Description
[HELP] I give up! Here’s why: I’ve done a CLEAN RE-INSTALL of MSFS (Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Premium-Deluxe edition) FIVE TIMES already (since August 18th) JUST TO TRY AND GET MY MOUSE WORKING again ā€œmore than just the first timeā€ following a successful re-install from scratch. Hmm, glad I decided (three re-installs ago) to connect my high-end gaming desktop to a high speed Ethernet network.

Do you have community add-ons/mods installed?
No

Steps to reproduce
Anyway, here’s what I did - and what happened - every time I tried to debug WHY my Premium-Deluxe edition of MSFS is ā€˜unable’ to RETAIN my Mouse SETTINGS:

1) Clean re-install of MSFS (https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016107019-How-to-repair-or-remove-Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-on-Microsoft-Store-Gamepass)
1.1) C:\Windows 10 (64bit Home edition).
1.2) D:\MSFS 2020 (alternate installation location).
2) GOOD NEWS 1: my Mouse worked perfectly in the DV20 on a runway - every setting.
3) Returned to Desktop.
4) Launched MSFS.
5) GOOD NEWS 2: my Mouse again worked perfectly in the DV20 on a runway - every setting. (as I didn’t REBOOT)
6) Returned to Desktop.
7) Launched MSFS.
8) GOOD NEWS 3: and again my Mouse worked perfectly in the ICON A5 on a runway- every setting. (as I didn’t REBOOT)
9) Returned to Desktop.
10) RESTART my high-end gaming desktop.
11) Launched MSFS.
12) BAD NEWS: disappointingly, the only functions of my Mouse that worked were the ā€œScroll Wheelā€ for ZOOM & UNZOOM COCKPIT & EXTERNAL VIEWS; ADJUSTING KNOBS & SWITCHES OF INSTRUMENTS IN COCKPITS, and the ā€œLeft Mouse Buttonā€ for primary functions such as selecting - otherwise nothing else worked, eg no Cockpit Focus Mode, no Cockpit Freelook, no nothing.
12.1) THOUGHT: possibly my alternate installation-location for MSFS (ie D:\MSFS 2020) is confusing MSFS after a REBOOT?
13) Returned to Desktop.
14) Shutdown.

Thanks in advance,
~Joseph Todaro

Today is Nov 4, 2020. Hello Zendesk support. Just so you know, I’ve tried just about everything, and still can’t get my Mouse to work in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, which means that I am unable to use the simulator (MSFS 2020) until this issue with the Mouse gets resolved, which is a shame as I purchased the Premium-Deluxe edition. Any idea when this issue might get resolved? I know it’s not just me, as I know several hundred other simmers have been experiencing similar issues with the Mouse. Looking forward to your suggestions. I will help anyway I can.
Please help!

I had this happen recently. I backtracked to the the last flight it was working ok. I had moved and resized the var map on a flight. I put it at the bottom corner of the screen. Put it back to top left and put it back to normal size and eureka no more mouse scrolling or clicking problems. That’s what worked for me. Hope that helps someone if any

It happened again last night. Only different this time. Not only the mouse didn’t interact with any switches and knobs but the yoke and throttle quadrant stoped working also. If I pressed Esc and called up the devices, they were all there and moving as expected. Resuming the flight again showed no activity.

I ended up going back to the main menu and creating the flight again and all worked as expected.

I’ve voted this bug in as I’m seeing more people complain about it and it appears to be a real issue at the moment.

Hi youngmusic1962, unfortunately that did not help… Jeez, I’ve tried just about everything, and still can’t get my Mouse to work! … Oh well, for the time being, until Microsoft resolves this issue, I won’t be able to use MSFS 2020 without my Mouse. What a shame.

Hi Cinnamonlnk8010, unfortunately that did not help either… Jeez, I’ve tried just about everything, and still can’t get my Mouse to work! … Oh well, for the time being, until Microsoft resolves this issue, I won’t be able to use MSFS 2020 without my Mouse. What a shame. By the way, I’ve also upvoted this bug.

From my perspective of a C++ Windows developer this is a dreadful bug in the mouse message handling.

I don’t know much about Xbox programming, but there is likely a clash between Xbox and PC handling of mouse and key/button messages.

Asobo will have designed a mouse and keyboard system that works on both platforms. Unfortunately the hardware UI is worlds apart, and we end up with a poor compromise.

My advice - ditch the Xbox!

Hi TaurineCorn668,
I wish I had an Xbox to ditch, actually, as I know it would probably solve the problem. LOL
I am 72, retired, and have been using X-Plane and Condor for the past 15-20 years.
Anyway, I am so disappointed and disheartened with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020…even with all the realistic scenery…it’s just not worth it to me – NOT if I can’t use the sim without a Mouse (see MY FLIGHTSIM RIG: below)… therefore, I AM STUCK…Anyway, I highly doubt that the problem with my Mouse on my high-end Windows 10 gaming desktop is ā€˜resolvable’ especially since the Windows 10 sim code is so ā€˜intertwined’ with Xbox… It’s a SHAME that Microsoft / Asobo / Azure cannot differentiate between a Windows Mouse and an Xbox Controller. Anyway, I am so disappointed & disheartened with ā€œMSFS 2020ā€ only because the code can’t tell whether it’s running on Windows or Xbox. (I do love the scenery though, but that’s a mute point now.)… Therefore, the only thing left for me to do is ask for a REFUND… good thing I paid for my Premium-Deluxe edition of MSFS 2020 with PayPal. By the way, I worked with IBM for 40+ years; I loved software design & programming (ASMH, APL, C, C++, PL/I, Java, Python, TCL/TK, etc.), Network Administration, System Administration, etc… then I retired year-end 2013…I had a ton of fun! …I miss it.

Jstodaro,

That’s a killer PC system you have. It should run Xplane perfectly, so enjoy it.

As you may know the WM_LBUTTONUP and WM_LBUTTONDOWN messages are the critical mouse events to adjust flight deck controls.

It’s unlikely the Xbox has the same messages, but I do know that missing WM_LBUTTONUP takes you into a world of pain. It’s a rookie developer mistake - we made a C++ base class that handle those messages automatically.
I developed 3D CAD/CAM for many years - we had several mouse tools for the user work flow. Getting endless button clicks or losing mouse control is embarrassing to say the least.

Asobo are able to resolve it, they are a games company used to fast, agile inputs from keyboard, mouse and joysticks. No excuses!
