Move MSFS to a different drive and not lose anything in the process

Hello, My Windows 10 C drive is getting too full and I would like to move FS to my much larger D drive which is also an m.2 ssd.
I understand the program can be moved through that option in the Apps and Features in Windows so that is great. Before I do that however, I’d like to make sure my add on aircraft, airports etc. that got added via the community folder will migrate with it.
Some Guru advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
We ask that people not use General Discussion for help, advice, or troubleshooting. Please use Community Support. I have moved your post to Community Support > Tech Support.

From your question I can suppose that you have installed directly all addons in the Community folder.
I’m not sure if in the move the community folder will de lost, bu in any case you can do the following.
1-Copy your Community folder to the new drive. (*)
2-Then delete the Community folder in C: MSFS install
3-Move MSFS to new drive
4-You can copy the Community to MSFS, but I recommend the use of MSFS Addonns linker and keep your addons out of MSFS

The Windows Apps, MSFS App, “Move” command will move MSFS including your community folder to a new drive.

Nothing is required from you.

Thanks all. Feeling sheepish after all that I went to move it and discovered it was already on my D drive! I’ll have to find some other stuff to move off of my C drive. I have only 32 GB left on it out of the 250 it started with. I was denied permission to open the Windows Apps folder on C or D and didn’t remember specifying D when the program was initially installed.

Be aware that MSFS will have folders on the C: drive for itself
and the Installed Packages Symbolic Links that point to the folders/filles that are on your D drive.

MSFS itself must remain on the C: drive (or boot drive).

The Symbolic Links and cannot be deleted or moved from the C: or boot drive. (If you want MSFS to run.)

The app itself and the Symbolic Links take very
little disk space.

change the last line in
c:\Users<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\UserCfg.opt
to your new location of the MSFS files / Official / Community
Moving the APP in Windows Setup or Store is then NOT necessary

Just to be clear for other readers, moving the "Installed Packages "
is necessary.

You can do it easily with the App “Move” command.
or
You can physically move the folders/files via File Explorer and then change the UserCfg.opt file to where you moved them to.

I cannot move the Microsoft Flight Simulator EXE program from Drive D to C. Access is denied. Windows safe mode does not help. If I uninstall MSFS 2020 and Reinstall on C:\MS_2020 then copy all the Store and community folders including the ones under appdata/Local, that sounds like another way to move it. Otherwise I can boot the computer in DOS and move them that way. I think the files in the Microsoft Flight Simulator folder needs to stay on the boot drive since moving one file is not easy.

Never move FS2020 anything from the C: (or boot) drive
except the “Installed Packages”. (If you want FS2020 to run.)

The “installed Packages” location is defined in the UserCfg.opt file.
Mine is → InstalledPackagesPath “D:\FS2020”

Move this folder only.

Note: (MS Store)
C:\Users\userid\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\UserCfg.opt

The last line of UserCfg.opt defines where the “Installed Packages” are located.

Not sure how that happened, but the installer put executable (EXE) on drive D. Since I cannot move it, I will uninstall it and reinstall on drive C.

I’m resuming this post to understand how to move the FBW installation from the Community disk C to disk D, I have w11 home in the OS features it doesn’t appear in the app to move the installation, to avoid making mistakes I only copy the folders involved? fly whih fs2020 Steam installation
I have the Addon linker app if it can help
thanks
