Moving to steam

i own flight sim on pc with game pass, due to the price change, i want to just buy it on steam, do i have to redownload everything or can i just buy on steam and it will recognize my game file or do i have to uninstall and reinstall

As steam will use its own API you will need to redownload it again from steam.

I don’t think you have to redownload the content files. Just move it somewhere and then after downloading the core app in the Steam, just point to your folder where Community and Official folders are.

Yeah i think you have a good chance you can backup the content files (the big download by the game itself) and point the launcher of the new installation to the location of the content files.

Yes, I did the same. I started with the MS GamePass version then moved to Steam. Didn’t have to re-download the data files (only the 1GB base files), however, I had to rename the sub-folder inside the “Official” folder to “Steam”. I don’t remember what it was named before in the MS Store version.

Or just buy it on MS store since it’s the same price and much simpler than having to run steam on top of the exact same game.
