What really helped me is that I got VPN connected to Italy and started game. It downloaded fast and without any problems. After installation I disconnected VPN and all is back to normal playing
So the game has set itself to default to the european/italian server?

I just found settings in game referring to Multiplayer server closest position. It can be changed to your preferences, but bare in mind that game choose it automatically based on your real location from where you’ve downloaded installation.
So if you used vpn to pretend you are in some other country than yours, after installation is finished, mandatory is to set this destination close to your location so game will not lagg trying to get far servers instead closest to you.
