Ms Store / App Update - Sim Won't Launch

  1. Last week I did an 8 GB update, created a flight plan and exited the sim. Couple days ago I wanted opened MSFS, an admin permission request popped up wanting to update something Ms store or app related that the Sim needs.
  2. Afterwards the sim will not launch, instead Ms store opens to Gaming Services, stating its installed, and shows no updates available.
  3. Per Ms instructions I removed Gaming services, restarted my PC, GS installed, and right back to the same issue.
I’ve removed gaming services about (3) times, cleared temp folders etc, cold booted my system, reinstalled GS.
Sim still won’t run, just opens the store to gaming services. Thanks Ms for breaking whatever you did.

Called support, on the phone for over an hour getting passed from one dept. to another, I finally end up at gaming division only to be hung up on, and then they never tried to call me back. They had asked for my phone # in case we got disconnected. So they have NO excuse not to trying and contact me. I also have no emails.

Try.

Read my post, I’ve already done all that, in triplicate, quit doing cookie-cutter reply’s without reading, thinking your reply is a fix-all for everyone.

This does not work either…xbox-game-pass/pc-games. Game Pass just launches Ms store and game services.

None of this works

I’m not blind.
Where is info about powershell?

  1. Per Ms instructions, I removed Gaming services, restarted my PC, GS installed, and right back to the same issue.

Ms instructions for removing gaming services are identical to yours, Ms give instructions for using commands in in power shell as admin, and gives instructions for removing via Windows registry keys.

Same issue here - windows 11. Have attempted all the fixes but to no avail. As per this thread it’s a problem with the latest update for gaming services.

Nope - learn how to register all apps.

The major problem is Ms Store, its a very poor delivery / download / update system for games. It doesn’t even have a flicker of light compared to Steam, or even the poor EA Origin. The more cogs in the system, the greater than chance for errors, thus we have the plagued digital system forced on us by the Ms Store. I’m retired IT professional, just about done it all under the sun, OS, servers, network, cyber security, coding for most of those. Ms Zendesk is worthless, most times I never even get a reply, and I get the cookie-cutter response, passed it on to dev team, will be addressed in next update. I have tickets that are 6 - 9 months old, that have never been fixed by a patch, nor has zendesk contacted me with a fix or even to troubleshoot.

Was in queue for 20 minutes. reminds me of dial-up speeds.

In addition to the above forementioned steps have also re-installed/registered all Appx apps.

See my last post in thread. Gaming Services appears to be a Red Herring (at least for me).

Yes, and that is my point, there are a ton of gamers out there that are experienced with the the windows OS, or have an IT background. Do you really think they should have to go through all that ■■■■ to just update their game? ? ? NO.

You are of NO help to the community by posting / replying with negative comments that are not helpful.

I had great difficulty in getting this update to work but after several tries it finally decided to update. Not to say I have not had technical issues after the update.

Elevator trim buttons no longer work in the upward direction on keyboard or flight stick although these buttons are mapped correctly for all planes.

One of the prop planes I like to use for touring no longer can be started from the runway, something about the auxilliary pump something switch, not a pilot here just trying to have fun . Anyway, plane has to be started from cold hard start only or propellers just abruptly stop at runway despite that button being in the correct setting per checklist, way to
go Microsoft. You’d think they would test these things because of these updates which I just dread.

This has happened before. Microsoft released an optional Windows update to fix the issue (this is outdated):

I got a new optional update today and you can try that, if you have not already. However, the patch notes does not mention this issue. I would try disabling any 3rd party anti-virus if the update does not do the trick.

Obviously my post is of no help in solving this. Spent 3 days trying to solve this exact problem myself and did a clean W10 OS and MSFS install. But I’m sure the same problem will happen again.

It’s finally loading MS FS instead of gaming store. What I did…

  • Apps > Apps & Features > Search for Microsoft Flight Simulator
  • Click the vertical three dots and select Advanced Options
  • Click Reset then Repair

Note after doing the above even though I did not Uninstall the game it has sort of done this. By that I mean the flat files are still on the drive however as far as Windows 11/Windows Store/Xbox App is concerned it’s not installed (No shortcuts etc). Re-installed via the Xbox App and it’s now able to load Flight Sim. It is however downloading 82.67GB of install data. :expressionless:

Here’s a list of my specs to see if this helps anyone with their troubleshooting.

OS Name Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
Version 10.0.22000 Build 22000

System Model X570 GAMING X
Processor AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor, 3700 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends International, LLC. F35, 2021-07-08
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 32.0 GB

Name Radeon RX 590 Series
Adapter Type AMD Radeon Graphics Processor (0x67DF), Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. compatible
Driver Version 30.0.13025.1000

Thanks All

It’s because Gaming services wiped all the registry keys including MSFS. Happened to me as well! I was searching for the registry key for both the app and MSFS under regedit and they were gone. I hope MS have fixed the corrupt app. If it occurs again I’m buying the steam version.

Although I see you insisted you uninstalled Game Services several times, and then berated the first reply from TenPatrol, I don’t see anywhere where you removed the 2 Gaming Services registry key sets as per:

I had exactly the same problem with Gaming Services and just removed the registry entries. That forced Gaming Services to re-install (I think it failed once then worked second time).

I didn’t have to do anything with MSFS. It stayed installed and worked just fine once Gaming Services had sorted itself out.

EDIT: Just noticed you did mention registry keys in a subsequent post. Still, it wasn’t apparent in the original post.

But what is for sure is that we should not be going through all this rubbish to get the sim working. And similar problems every single update.

I have the same problem, tried everything posted above, even restore from a backup. FS did start one time but after I restarted my computer it was over again.

Also the MS store is extremly slow since yesterday, it took forever to reinstall the gaming services.

I’m on Win10 21H1. I hope this get fixed soon by MS.

Nope, these people are incompedent, over (2) days of been on the phone with xbox and windows support agents, over (5) hours on the phone, (4) hours of that they were remoted into my PC. The update broke things so bad that…

  1. The game would not properly uninstall, and could not be reinstalled.
  2. The store has super slow download rates for (3) days now.
  3. The update messed up and corrupted the user account on my PC, agent had to create an new user account just to get the game to install.
4.Now it won’t install because the rate is so slow 65 - 130KB, that it times-out and kicks me from the download.
I’ve never seen such a mess in my life, and the agent stated there was nothing they could do about the slow speed from the Store, that I would have to create a ticket in Zendesk.
    Zendesk is totally worthless!

I was ticked…
The agent from xbox team was remoted into my PC for so long, that I got bored watching every little thing he did, so I spent some time on my phone going through mail, trying to get something accomplished on my end.
Come to find out, he disabled every single thing in startup, that was an easy fix. But then I had a bunch of apps that would no longer run and some had nagging pop-up errors that would not stop. Apparently he went into services, and just didn’t stop them, but he set a ton to disabled. I even had a couple of Ms services that he left disabled. I had to spend a bunch of time chasing these all down, and some remained broke, so I had to uninstall / reinstall. Took me over an hour to get everything fixed.
I’m left with my one and only main admin account that either Ms update corrupted, or a Ms agent corrupted, and I sim that I can’t even install. I say corrupted in that, all my programs, apps, game run fine, you just can’t begin an install of MSFS from the store, it won’t even start, after the window pops up with install option, hit install, and it never starts, not added to downloads.

I’m really wondering why not more people have this problem… I’m not able to start FS for 3 days now.
