Hi there, I was just wondering what you guys think about the comparison between ingame- MSFS 2020 ATC and ingame -MSFS 2024 ATC? IMHO, I think the MSFS 2024 is better than MSFS 2020..What do you guys think? Any info or help is greatly appreciated. TIA
Info or help with what? Both 2020 and 2024 are pretty terrible. If you want decent ATC that will not break the bank, go with BATC.
Unfortunately I need to agree to @BoboSkypark - the ATC of 2024 is just as bad as 2020.
I remember they promised big improvements on that with FS2024 (before release), nothing to be seen yet.
But they are still working on it⊠so if we are lucky⊠maybe something decent in SU3 or later.
Surely it will stay far behind external tools. Which I absolutely cannot understand, as MS should have the AI capabilities in the background to make it pretty great.
AI is not a silver bullet. As of now, it is more of a marketing gimmick. Humans are the ones creating âAIâ and that should give you some idea as to how phenomenally stupid âAIâ is going to be.
ATC and traffic in 2024 is just as bad, if not worse than 2020. Both are a joke compared to how long Asobo has had to work on it. Beyond ATC is far better. Itâs not finished in development yet but at least they are making steady progress.

I share the view that BeyondATC improves the radio communication function substantially. Where I think my opinion is somewhat different are the possibilities of AI in general and for our fans in particular. AI is in the process of making huge advances. That and not including the news lately about the AI function using quantum computers. In the priority of the implementation of ATC in flight simulators, the possibilities of renumbering are negligible in comparison.
But those like BeyondATC are sure that their efforts and the servers they use for the use of AI will have strong positive impacts, and that in rapid consecutive steps. What I see as an impediment are the costs for applications that use AI resources on the Internet. If we look at and compare the costs to the AI user at BeyondATC, using slightly more advanced AI capabilities makes it prohibitive for many, including me.
What I observe in the advances and in the use of flight simulators is focused on commercial aviation. I stopped flying real GA planes almost 25 years ago and for me navigation is only with analog instruments, which was what existed then and ATC required it for vfr flights. The most advanced I had the opportunity to use were the use of GPS.
Today I am building a cockpit with the C310, which was the aircraft I used in the Multi-engine training.
This is very true. I can at least make complete flights and have a good back-and-forth with ATC and not be told to climb to FL750 (which is when I stopped the flight) in 2024.
My experience is that ATC 24 is worse than 20. Flew the same plane and IFR flight plan in both just yesterday. 20 was a little late getting me down from FL320 to 2500 feet for final, but got it done in a couple of reasonable steps. 24 was very late asking me to descend to 2800, then as I began to descend it asked me to climb back to FL320, then again 2800, and climb againâŠ. Total nuts. After clearing me to final when I was at 4000, it again demanded I expedite my climb to FL320.
Canât say I loved ATC in 2020, but on Xbox the third party options are not available. But as of now 2024 is making 2020 look pretty good.
Just my opinions.
Interesting, I remember a very awkward lack of them saying ANYTHING about ATC for MSFS 2024 pre-launch, which lead me to believe it would be almost entirely unchanged. I think the only specific thing they ever said was that AI voices would be improved, which is true (though Iâd say it went from a D in 2020 to a C- in 2024).
On the February developer stream, Working Title confirmed on-air that the 2024 ATC has actually regressed in several ways compared to 2020, so while the voices may have marginally improved, the actual functionality has (admittedly) gotten worse. Part of that stream was also confirming that Working Title has been tasked with improving the current ATC systems, though since nothing approximating the word âoverhaulâ was used, my expectations are low.
Nope. 2024 Stock ATC is worse than 2020 Stock ATC.
With the Phraseology Mod I use in 2020, I can at least get to an 85 percent close assimilation to real-world language and reactions to both VFR and IFR procedures.
The only thing 2024 Stock ATC has that 2020 doesnât is the wider variety of accents/voices because itâs all online using Azure + Natural Voice âą. And to be brutally candid - those accents are awful, setting aside the obvious grammatical errors and silly things like reading out Pressure Altitude to four decimal places.
âR-N-A-Vâ, ârunway one eight Râ, and âwindâ (pronounced to rhyme with âmindâ) are some of my favorites ![]()
Funny thing about âwindâ: sometimes itâs pronounced correctly, sometimes (mostly) like you said (âmindâ).
Whatever tech in the background that is⊠currently more a joke than a feature
My biggest frustration with ATC in 2024 is the loss of the ability to file IFR from an uncontrolled airport. Without that, IFR is unavailable to me at 90% of the airfields I file in/out of.
That and the ridiculous decision to limit how many choices one can see in the ATC window and having to use a very awkward scroll bar to see the rest of the choices.
I put up with 2020âs ATC frustrations, but I had to get a 3rd party solution for 2024 to even have the ability to fly IFR. So, yeah, 2024âs ATC is worse.
Great comment!
Of course when it finally gets there we wonât be around much longer to use it. Watch the Terminator flicks.. ![]()
And I love â⊠altimeter 29.â (end of sentence pause)âŠ(switch to new sentence inflection) â92 expect runwayâŠâ
That surprises me too. Way back in my VB days, all I had to do was to open the panel and drag the bottom down a bit then save it. Or if itâs set by the number of pixels, then just increase it.
