Yes, until now. Just now in fact. So my question would be is 2024 more compatible with DX12? Also, while loading 2020 after refresh, the C172 sp file had to be pulled out due to operational loading.
MSFS 2024 runs only on DX12 - there is no DX11 support at all.

Thank you, I believe that is the answer. Appreciate you quick response!
It appears that the issue has been resolved with Sim Update 16.1 (currently on beta branch). I tested this using the latest NVIDIA driver (591.86) with the NVIDIA App installed. MSFS 2020 no longer crashes in DX11 mode, and I was also able to load a flight. I also tested VR and DLSS 4.5 through DLSS Swapper, both worked flawlessly. The only issue I encountered was a brief lag when zooming in on the World Map, but the sim eventually recovered on its own. My system is equipped with an RTX 5060.
Can confirm. It works on Beta like a charm.

So wait, we no longer have to use 566.36 if we’re not using DX12?
Basically it will now load in as normal with the newest latest NVIDIA drivers on DX11 and work.

Yes - but only under one condition. CTD during MSFS 2020 loading has been fixed in the current beta, so right now only that version doesn’t crash during loading. Outside of the beta, the issue still occurs.
I was able to get in the game. But with the newest beta and with the newest 591.86 drivers on DX11, the game crashed on loading aircraft.
I don’t believe it no longer crashes when I zoom into the world map though, I’ll have to do more testing.
It was a DXGI error.
I do not have the NVIDIA app installed also
I did a clean install of MSFS2020 and as with most others I get a CDT before getting to the home screen. I have tried the suggestions from above short of going to the Beta version. I have not used the Beta versions in the past. Does this mean we will have to wait for the formal update before we can fly the sim again? That seems absurd to me. I prefer to not go to MSFS2024 on this PC system. Has Asobo any plans to do a hot fix or……?
Editing the UserCfg.opt file helped me and many others fix this issue. If you are still getting a CTD during MSFS 2020 loading after that, then the cause is likely not the problem described in this thread.
Thanks for the reply. I opened UserCfg.opt to make the change but it already was set to use DX12. That through me for a loop. I had just installed the sim this morning. Don’t know if that is why. I tried editing the Cfg to use DX11 just to see what happens. Didn’t work. What’s interesting is that after trying the sim again and getting the CTD the Cfg had changed back to DX12 preference. Don’t really know where to go from here.
To get proper help, please create a new topic and describe the issue in detail. Don’t forget to include Fault Bucket and a screenshot of the error from Event Viewer - that info is crucial for anyone trying to help you.
A post was merged into an existing topic: MSFS 2020 crashing again after last update
Today, a new NVIDIA driver update was released (more details here), along with an update for MSFS 2020. This MSFS update finally fixes the CTD issue that occurred when launching the simulator with DX11 - they’ve finally fixed it.
EDIT
I tested MSFS 2020 without the NVIDIA app installed. So if you have the NVIDIA app installed, check whether MSFS now launches without crashing.
I can confirm even with the NVIDIA app, it launches successfully with DX11.
Since the issue has now been fixed, the tag can be updated to
fixed-on-live
As per OP’s confirmation above.
