For those with the Steam version of MSFS 2020, if it’s disconnecting at the Checking for Updates screen DON’T hit the continue button. Let it sit a few minutes, and it will reconnect. The update size will change to 0 bytes. Then hit continue, and the game will boot normally to the main screen, with the marketplace available.

Okay for me, fs2020 and 2024 can’t both be open on Xbox Causes errors and crashes.
I can report that this issue is affecting my experience with MSFS 2020 not running after trying to start the simulator. Using a PC, my connection is very good currently after speedtest check. over 750 mbps download.
I’m in Orlando, FL.
FS2020 starts to load, after arriving at the “checking for updates” process begins, shortly after that, there is a red “Lost connection” error pop-up.
I clicked on “Continue”, it starts to load for me showing a slow moving progress bar on the bottom.
After about 5 minutes, I was able to finally get the main menu.
It shows options, activities, world map, etc. however the “Marketplace” option is being greyed out as currently unavailable.
I choose to go to world map, then CTD.
Total time from start to finish was around 8 minutes for all of that to transpire.
After restarting and going through the exact same steps and results, this time I try selecting an activity, and again, CTD.
So, yeah. Waiting for the team to get us back in the air.
UPDATE: Try again, it’s now loading up all the way to the main menu again. And now appears to be back online

Well, Asobo and/or MS: pls give us an update for MSFS2020, that it doesn’t need to connect to any server, and let us play the game without any issues. We payed for it, so we don’t want to beg for access!

Just tried the West USA server about 30 minutes ago and sim loads without any errors, MARKET PLACE is back online.

I’m having the same problem in Illinois, USA. It tells me there’s an update, but it shows very odd figures regarding disk space available (I have plenty of disk space available). It also has a pop-up message saying my internet connection is down. After I press “next” it loads the initial screen, but CTDs as soon as I press anything.
Updated & loaded, and running as normal – East Coast USA… Baltimore area on Xfinity cable @ 6pm 11/30/2024

Back online, not had a chance to fly though. Marketplace active. UK.
Says 'Installation complete", but hanging indefinitely.

I can’t use 2024 because of the VRAM bug. Now I can’t use 2020 either. What a great day to be a sim pilot. It even simulates mechanical issues caused by administration…

Here in Spain ( madrid ) everything is ok. Online it’s fine and the market it’s ok
Same problems here in Europe, also weird freezing with FS2024 when returning to main menu
Greece. Functionality restored. Everything working fine now.
No offense, but as often as there are server problems with this sim, uninstall/reinstall is rarely the solution.
