MSFS 2020 load time with "checking for updates"

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
Load time recently is extremely long. I am not “stuck” on checking for updates completely but I am stuck on that for 3-4 minutes every time. Is there anything to do to shorten or disable that? Any loading parameter maybe that will disable that? I tried to search for that but most posts discuss cases where people got completely stuck there.

Yep, noticed that too. At least 2 minutes or longer. 2024 devs, please do not bork up 2020 whilst trying to fix 2024.

Moved to User Support Hub that is more appropriate for community support.

Me too; while MSFS2020 itself doesn’t take too long, the checking for updates takes is getting longer and longer

It’s been happening since '24 was released. If I believed in conspiracy theories, I’d swear that MS is doing it on purpose to “encourage” the purchase of the newer sim…

Yep also on this side

I think that it may be more that 2020 and 2024 are now sharing servers and 2024 may have priority.

Same for me since 3 Jan 2024. It take like 2 min. I also had one case in which MSFS2020 got stuck at the end of the loading progress bar (just before reaching the main interface)

Me too,

I`m playing on PC as Xbox X and observe that it takes quite some good time to load the game and to get over the “checking for updates” screen. Roughly the same on both platforms.

Personally consider this as: there must be somethings wrong… :face_with_monocle:

I have the same situation for the last 2-3 days. The update check screen lasts 2 minutes, and today it lasts 5 minutes!

Last night, I was a bit curious about how long it takes the update screen on MSFS2020.
So I restartet the game late at night and measured, for my surprise it was a bit quicker the second start of the game(without restarting PC): ~1:32min.

On Xbox X, I turned later on came an Update in right after the Asobo screen: it took the “update screen” ~1:12min.

It seemed to me a bit faster this time.

Same here… for me it sits on the checking for updates loader for a little over a minute but every other 2 or 3 launches I have to force close MSFS because the loading bar reaches the end and the sim never loads to the main menu.

It seems that by clearing the cache files in the LocalState\DCE folder MSFS then loads into the main menu. Have also noticed that I haven’t seen any new .pso cache files being created anymore in the LocalState\cache folder. Not the normal behavior I’ve been used to with MSFS.

Today I seem to be stuck indefinitely on the checking for updates screen… About two hours ago I loaded MSFS to the main menu just fine. Decided to take a walk, came back to load MSFS and now I cannot get past the checking for updates screen. First time I have ever seen it get stuck like this on this screen. As of now it’s been 30 minutes on this screen…

I don’t understand why the initial launcher checks for updates then passes with no updates and says then launching game. Then the game launches and there is then a second check for updates via this installation manager…

Wonder what is going on with it today?

Another day, same old same old. Cant get past the checking for updates again. weekly occurrence now regular as clockwork. I’d be embarrassed if I released something this bad.

Same here, it’s my only day off this week and i’m stuck in this screen for 40 minutes, shame on you Asobo… it is really getting old… I thought only FS2024 was bad…

Before 2024 released i sat in “checking for updates” for 5 seconds MAX. Now ever since 2024 released im sitting in “checking for updates” between 2-5minutes. As im writing this i’ve been sitting here waiting for 7 minutes actually.

JOKE of a company

Just as I typed the above it eventually went past the checking for updates screen after 15 mins or so, then sat for equally as long loading the actual game. When the main menu eventually appeared the first thing I noticed was the market place was unavailable (not that I’d ever gice them any more money) and greyed out, then the game CTD. Joke.

Microsoft obviously think that if they intentionally make a bad game even worse then we will all immediately buy another game off them that is equally as bad if not worse, dream on.

Most likely sharing resources between sims. Microbot may be limiting it’s resources to Asobo. Good times.

I was stuck for about 10 minutes before I finally disabled my network, which has the effect of force-skipping this step. I’ve since reenabled my network and now slowly … very, very slowly … loading the sim.

NVM … scratch that. Just had my first FS2020 CTD in a good long while. Come on, MS. Saturdays are the only times some of us can get in a good day of flying.
