MSFS 2020 on a high end rig reality

Not sure what means high end, each years, new stuff coming, that same high end this years next year will be mid and so on, every system shift down for the same price on CPU\GPU. This is not fixed xbox platform. Next new GPU card are coming fast.

High manual LODs are going to give you some stuttering. This was mentioned as a known issue for the next hotfix that they plan to address in WU6. I really wouldn’t worry about visuals until the next hotfix has dropped as they are addressing some of the now known issues regarding them.

Wish we knew if it were 25 hours away or not.

a note: if I see these specs, I have others in mind as to call it a ā€œhigh end rigā€

It is such a big mistake to believe that a better and more powerful computer will make things better.
Nobody seems to understand the game is really new, full of bugs and non optimized. There are so many problems they will fix and will make the game run smoother, without the necessity of having a super-powerful computer.
Right now we just have to be patient and wait for improvements, they are the ones that need to fix the game. At the end of the day, we are paying big money to overcome all the game’s problems.
I have a 970, a 3600 and 16 of RAM, with the latest update I am getting 45 FPS over New York, and it looks awesome. I didn’t pay any extra money for a 3090, I just waited.
But anyways, who am I to say ā€œdon’t spend your money in what you wantā€?, nobody.

The Husky, which they released on the marketplace yesterday. Very fun little plane.

Thank you for the feedback! I’ll make sure this somehow gets documented somewhere!

Yes. pretty much this. And you probably do not try to get 4k @ ultra out of your system. Before I upgraded I had a GTX980 and a 4770k, it was chugging along happily at 1080p and with a mix of high/medium settings. It is just the expectation that needs to be curtailed a bit when not running top of the line hardware.

No that’s bleeding edge, far and above ā€œhigh endā€.

Weird flex, but ok

I’m sure I’ve read quite a few posts that state that disabling virtualisation in the BIOS is a good thing to do.

yes.. I tried both, because there was older discussions where users reported that performance will increased in case of disabling it. As expected there was no diff in enabled or disabled :).. I’am back to the normal ā€œonā€ setting ( also because my VM software need it ).

Problem is back no solution at all. Sever pings goes from 150-350ms. Think that’s it. The scenery does not load proper fast enough. First impression shows 52ms but seconds later the pings went crazy on all severs to choose. 150-350ms.

no issue here ( 28ms )… but if I see the ā€œLatenzā€ in your first screenshot of 40ms, I would guess your connection is in generally not the best. Any other noticable issues with the connection ? WiFi or LAN ?

Because of the post with the CPU virtualisation by @orthi , I have now ā€œwastedā€ a few hours of time. The Glass Cockpit Refresh Rate is set to High for me. However, I have also tested with the medium setting. No matter whether I activate SVM (AMD-VT) in my BIOS or not, the measured CPU and GPU performance is always the same. It makes no difference. Since I don’t use virtualisation software like VirtualBox, VMware or Parallels Desktop, I deactivated it again. At least I know now that I can ignore such tips.

@orthi , have you ever checked your assertion intensively?

exactly what I mentioned  … but it is also not wrong to disable it, in case you not need VM’s

Yes, great, you write your post 2 hours ago. I was testing at the time. If I had read it before, I could have saved myself the testing. But I only read it now. What could I have done during that time? I can think of a few things (looking at my wife ). Yes, I don’t use VMs. That’s why it can be off.

there are old vodoo post (s ?) in forum which show diagramms with more than 50% better fps in case ā€œoffā€ versus ā€œonā€. Therefore I have the virtualisation stuff so in my mind… So far I know, a small amount of memory is reserved in case it is on, but I never noticed such an amount of fps ā€œwinā€ or ā€œlossā€ ( like from 10fps to >30fps in this case here) as allways reported. If that would be the case, these ā€œtechnicā€ would be more or less already died.

For me, the CPU load was about 1 % higher with VT switched on and the GPU load was identical. However, this was probably more of a measurement tolerance.
