MSFS 2024 is actually good

iirc 2020 used a similar amount of bandwidth for PG areas in my experience so I’m not surprised in the slightest.

(Please in 2024 let me keep my aircraft locally and I shall be happy!)

So you reckon walking around a plane taking off the chocks , pitot covers in a GAME is proper pre flight inspection …Jeez
Bit more to it than that if you really want to go in depth , how about checking for fuel contamination , amount of fuel in a cessna not just looking at the gauges , use a measuring rod on top of the wing , checking tyres for splits, degradation …now thats a proper inspection , I know because every time I fly in a 172 IRL thats what we have to do as well as checking the control surfaces …

FSX , you been checking me out right ? :joy:
Yes I have owned all the microsoft releases back to 2000 and the one before and yes , FSX had a casual side , but I was never interested in the missions , rescuing climbers or taking VIPS from one place to another …

I fly real world routes , proper aircraft , call signs study level aircraft as best can be on VATSIM talking to humans ATC and other pilots , the only reason I bought this game was for the added realsim , not to Medivac someone to hospital …but I agree with your sentiment FSX had similar , but if I dont want it , I just choose what matters to my flight experience.

So if I understand you correctly, we have to be grateful that Microsoft, Asobo have released this wonderful product. We pay say 150 bucks and are now part of a wonderful future with weaknesses and mistakes.
I don’t want to discover the moon with a rocket, I want to have a correct gaming experience.

I forgot to mention how good the game looks when it has vehicles and traffic.

It feels more “live” than 2020, with less empty spaces.

I’m in the UK and just had another try (3rd day of trying!). The game loads OK now, but when I try to launch a flight, it just hangs.

First and last time I’ve ever pre-ordered a game and on the fence of whether to initiate a refund and wait several months with the money in my pocket instead of someone else’s. A great customer service concept - under promise / over deliver. This thing was hyped up to be amazing leading people like myself to pre-order so it’s understandable why there are so many frustrations.

It’s not just the poor performance, but the hassle of having to reassign settings to the joystick rather than being able to copy such features over from 2020. With a real life that limits play time, I want to be able to spend that time flying, not being a beta / alpha tester and faffing with laborious set up procedures. When I changed PC this year, virtually all my personal settings were automatically carried over, why couldn’t 2024 adopt the same approach for those with 2020?

Sorry, but right now, I have a £200 hole in my wallet for no gain.

Yes I heard that too , not surprising really as everyone is flocking back their to maintain a flight

Ah lol not looking ya up, I assumed since… well… we are on the MSFS forum .

I think you’re finding that what was added doesn’t align with your interests because what was added focuses much more heavily on GA/bush flying than previous sim. I personally have absolutely no interest in tubeliner flying (cool irl, not gonna babysit virtually tho), so I tend to do GA/bush flying. The missions are very much the type of stucture I want. Forces me to do actual planning, provides structure/motivation.

Everyone has their own interests, needs, desires. This sim fills a lot of gaps that 2020 had for me (I forgot to mention the ground handling and terrain, so much better). Perhaps it doesn’t do the same for your use case, but remember us lame people who aren’t quite good enough to use VATSIM (I mean that as a compliment! )

(Simply live in a better country, who needs the NHS! /s)

Good for you , I am at the other end of the spectrum , I do fly GA but IRL

Well lets hope for both our sakes it works out well going forward …otherwise they need their ■■■■■ kicked !!

Oh and thanks for the compliment , but its not a badge of honour …dive in give it a go , you can do VFR in Vatsim too you know …whats the worst that can happen…

Happy flying

Ah lol if only I had the money or more importantly the time to do a PPL, alas that’s not gonna happen right now (although I do now work in aerospace so who knows!)

Hopefully yeah, they sort stuff out in the coming weeks and add-ons get made compatible, maybe I’ll eventually feel confident enough to use vatsim. Hopefully I’ll see ya flying around!

I actually just have it on the side of 2020 now because it takes up such a small storage space. I checked out my city again since release day and actually looks better now, not great, but better. I’ll be returning to see what’s up every day and after patches to see what’s working and not. I refunded the game on steam but I still got game pass.

(I do have to say, with my setup and apparent lack of streaming problems, 2024 is far better looking. This is particularly true of night lighting, flew over a large town I’ve flown into tons of times at night and it’s pretty darn close to spot-on.)

I’m flying right now FS2020 from EDDM to EBBR and it works great, no problems at all.

This is the way to do it tbh, if you need add-ons/it isn’t working rn, just wait for a month and circle back to it. Hopefully should be fully sorted by then

I believe you, but from what I’ve seen online so far, FS2020 on my system in 4K is better or at worst on par with FS2024.

Same. Today (crossing fingers) everything works quite good. Most problems i had (for example with specific aircraft) seem to be gone. Some people don’t seem to see the enhancements over 2020 i wonder… I see lots of improvements in visual fidelity (shorelines just to name one…).

I see a glorious future (and today the future doesn’t seem to be as far away as it was in the past 48h  )

Dude, some of us in Europe have not been able to make a single flight since launch. It’s not “very playable” for a lot of people. There are serious issues that need to be addressed

Hi there!

I am on Xbox Series X and here are my first impressions of MSFS 2024:

I pre-ordered the game and I have to say, the release went not worse than I expected:

Of course it is utterly difficult to make something work day one, when you change a game to streaming-content and have millions of customers trying it instantly after realease.
So I was not surprised to see all the waiting line on day one trying to enter the game.

The download went super-smooth for me (faster than downloads in MSFS 2020 for world updates for example).

When I first ran the game on day one, the graphics were worse than in the old version, but I thought “ok, let’s wait and see on another day”.

And hey - yesterday was day two, the game started without any problems, the graphics were much better, because there was less traffic on the servers, the game is running smooth as silk.

I mean, just look at the improvements:
rocks and grass, autogen buildings, cloud colors, in general the colors are not so over-saturated anymore - wow!

Of course there are still problems like the trees and the connection issues for many simmers - but this will only get better from now on.

When MSFS 2020 was released on Xbox (way after it came out on PC) it was much worse for me - CTDs, stuttering and so on.

So I really do not understand people just coming here, complaining like they got hurt or screwed or lost something.
Show some patience and respect and we will get there, no doubt!

Have fun flying in the nearest future y’all !!!
