MSFS 2024 is coming to PlayStation 5 this November

100% my concern. Great that we can add more pilots into the sim, but if the Playstation version is vastly different at what point do the high end/accurate developers say no more console support for anyone?

MScenery will always shovel their garbage, but someone like Blacksquare for example has posted numerous times on the JustFlight forums how difficult the marketplace is already, if Playstation is different than I can see some of them just giving up. Which would be awful for us console users.

It’s a single codebase that produces separate builds for each target platform with different configuration:

  • PC MS Store [code signed for MS Store, links to Xbox gaming-specific libraries]
  • PC Steam [links to Steam-specific libraries; as far as I know this is usually a separate build and Asobo have always described MS Store and Steam as distinct builds and asked to have you specify which you’re using in support]
  • Xbox [built with Xbox SDK, code signed for Xbox, disables a bunch of settings and network services]

[Rumor is there’s separate Xbox series S and series X builds as well? I’m not sure what the difference would be in the code rather than the configuration; I’m curious to hear more from the people saying these exist. –update]

This is how pretty much all cross-platform software works these days – it’s not like the 1980s where one guy would write a game for one platform in assembly and then ship it to three other guys who’d port the completed code to other related-but-different platforms; the single codebase continues to get modified and improved over time and new versions continue to come out for all supported platforms.

(In software development, a “codebase” refers to the entire set of source code you’re working with, which you use to create “builds” or “binaries” which are the actual executable files that you send to the computer to run. A single codebase can use conditional compilation to support dozens of separate operating systems and CPU architectures.)

Good for PlayStation folks. However “Coming to PC!” still has issues. As someone who bought the Juice Goose this week and is now setting here waiting for an XBox controller to be delivered. I am concerned that the “cross-pollination” will not be good for us “Old PC” types.

I am sure that MSAcobo would like to bring it to Apple Watch as well however it would be good to get the first product fixed.

Sounds like money takes precedent over a quality product.

Is VR any good with PS?

Any way, I wish them to repair broken/incopmlete planes before they release on PS. I did not try all the planes in the sim, but I believe my favorite planes (737M, L-39, A320) deserve a bit better fate. ATC also requires repair. Are they able to fix all this by November?

The main problem in 2024 is that it came out 1 year too early, I don’t care it goes on playstation but I hope they don’t rush things like they did last november because it was called 2024

Unless authorised, Sony doesn’t allow any backdoor subscription/purchases which aren’t via the PS store. Honestly think it’s going to be native, however we are all forgetting the PS5 Pro, wonder how the game will look on that one in Particular

Since MSFS 2024 is CPU- and memory-limited, I don’t think it will be radically different to the Xbox version. The PS5 Pro has a slightly faster CPU (around 10% if used in “boost mode”) and basically the same amount of memory available as on Series X, so these will still be bottlenecks, unless Asobo finds a way to radically reduce memory footprint and CPU usage.

And this is also why I’m curious how add-ons would work. Something like PMDG products have been heavily optimized for Xbox in mind, it’s not a given that they will just make the jump to PS5 and work the same way. This is not like other games, so many more moving parts and variables, from WASM to the marketplace system (billing, etc). Fascinating times ahead.

They’ll work the same way, because cloud gaming accepts the Dualsense 5 and DualShock 4 ( both Sony controllers ), won’t be much different gameplay wise to how cloud is interactive with the game, might be much better in ps5 /pro due to it being native, it won’t be a cloud based, as for the marketplace I see it coming, but with a hike in prices, because let’s not forget Sonys cut in every purchase made too.

The PS5 port, if happens, will be a native game, not cloud streamed from Xbox.

I’m still curious how you say this as an absolute :thinking: I understand PS5 doesn’t currently support Xbox cloud gaming - but it also doesn’t currently support a native version of the sim, so it’s hard to say anything for sure right now.

Sony have their own game subscription and streaming service on PlayStation so they will not allow Game Pass on their platform. It would make no business sense. Flight Simulator would also make no sense to stream on a machine that is capable of running it natively, especially that the streamed version is the Series S, the worst of the bunch. It’s just not happening. If MSFS 2024 truly comes to PS5, it will be a full native port. This is not even worth discussing. Game Pass is not coming to PlayStation.

It’s much more interesting to wonder how a port would work with all its unique features and technical challenges.

Marketplace purchases on PC transfer to Xbox console provided the PC version isn’t Steam, so I would think it’s likely/probable.

Edit: Actually, they may transfer for Steam owners as well - I think it’s just the ownership of the sim that doesn’t transfer if you buy it on Steam, but Marketplace purchases associated with the same Xbox account should transfer.

Yeah, you “own” nothing if purchased on Steam - you are only licenced to use it. If they remove the game - tuff! When you buy a Marketplace item you purchase through Steam with £’s not simverse coins and the same principle applies - you don’t actually “own” it - you own the licence to use it.

Content is locked to the platform you bought it on.

I hope this is not true. Getting MSFS2024 match fit on PC (and maybe XBox) should be the focus. Branching out to other platforms will divert development time, but more concerning, it indicates someone in a leadership position thinks MSFS2024 is fully formed & stable !

Doubtful, they’d likely just sell them as DLC on the PS Store as a separate entity. We only need to look at how other titles work in that regard, such as Farm Sim etc… in fact any other game too.

Well the part that makes me curious is that for 2024 they made it so items purchased from both Microsoft (PC MS Store and Xbox) and Steam both are available for use on either platform when using the same Xbox Live account:

So I’m curious if they expect the same deal with Sony as they got with Valve, or if PlayStation users who also have a PC or Xbox would be limited on that platform to just what they bought locally like in 2020.
