MSFS 2024 is Not Ready For Release

I was wondering how long it would be before this surfaced. I always thought anybody that expected the launch version to be a perfect-in-every-sense, polished, no bugs, all concerns from 2020 fixed product was living in a Pollyanna-ish dream world.

OF COURSE there are going to be issues! Expecting anything else is absurd. I would happily take the massive improvements that have been shown, warts and all, rather than wait for the beautiful, complete, perfect, old-by-then delayed until 2035 release of MSFS 2025. Which would still have issues.

And yes, I fully anticipate a deafening chorus of wailing and gnashing of teeth and I-told-you-so’s immediately following the release of the sim.

To each his own. If you demand perfect right out the gate I would suggest you look elsewhere. Personally, I am happily looking forward to the release on the 19th.

Well you can (as an beginner) fly and play with a xbox controller. But yes its much more enjoyable with a joystick, throttle and yoke and rudder pedals and a VR (or trackIR) unit. My advice is to start simple with a relative cheap flight stick (below 100$)… And yes there is no end for this and other very nice flightsim hardware…

These topics are so frustratingly binary.

If you complain, the response is “you don’t have to buy it.”

Isn’t there some sort of middle ground where having some level of expectation of working features and major bugs resolved prior to launch is an okay to have expectation?

What, there is zero room for concern, zero room for being critical?

No wonder everything in this world has become so polarized.

Blech.

It’s all about managing our expectations. As a Series S user, I don’t expect much, but that won’t stop me from testing it at launch through Gamepass and helping with feedback on what can be improved. SIM 2020 is horrible, I don’t think it will be worse than what I’m currently experiencing.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again: I cannot wait until the 19th to play  Things will be fixed as they come, and that’s alright and to be expected.

Also, people will never fully be 100% happy with anything. There will always be complaints about one thing or another, so no amounting of adding or fixing things will ever make someone’s ideal and perfect game. That’s just the way it is.

I mean, the less people that play on launch will mean less server strain as well I’m assuming so that’s a bonus for us that do play at launch :man_shrugging:t3:

I get the impression that there’s people here that would probably tell Picasso ‘That’s a great masterpiece you’ve made, but fix (insert x, y and z issue) and it’ll be even better!’

My point being that what we’ve seen has only been the tech alpha and dev builds. We’re 6 days away from launch. Maybe just wait and see before jumping to big conclusions?

I was a Alpha/Beta tester for 2020…2024’s money is now in Asobo/Microsofts bank account…so its full steam ahead for me, bumps and potholes included. Just fingers crossed they learnt from the initial 2020 release.
Like a lot of other simmers, 2020 is staying on my hard drive, same as P3D did when 2020 was released.

Spot on. I bought premium deluxe a couple of days ago, but based on all available info I’m very much bracing for Tuesday to feel a bit beta-ish after all this anticipation. In any case, this is really one of the only places to vent on it and speculate with other people, and that should be ok.

I’ve been a bit dissapointed in this to be honest. I was thinking we’ll have some discovery series but no, it’s almost exclusively been the dev streams and reactions to various shows and the Global Preview event.

If MS and Asobo had more time, the marketing would have been more prepared, but I’ve enjoyed the dev steams and letting folks see the Tech Alpha was a pretty cool experience.

I’m not sure MSFS had an SDK when it launched. This has no bearing on the quality of the sim. Clearly the SDK ‘Alpha’ is functional as there are many third party planes included as default, so you are probably worrying about nothing, of course it will need a lot of work, we know a lot of documentation needs updating.

Will run the game and run the game in VR are two totally different asks. Yes I’m expecting VR to be ready at launch, it was available at the Global Preview event and was well recieved.

I’ve not seen todays dev stream, but it’s quite possible that with so many third party developers contributing, you’ll get aircraft of differing quality and readiness. I would assume though that the Asobo planes from before should be in reasoiable shape and the inibuilds additions should be solid. I was very happy with the inibuilds dev stream!

The wonderful thing about this platform is that you can play using an Xbox controller on a moderate PC with a 1080p monitor or you can build a home cockpit, or even pay for an expensive DOF Reality motion rig and pair it up to a 4K Virtual Reality headset. The choice is yours, but to enjoy MSFS an Xbox controller with perhaps a few sim suppport assists enabled and you’re good to go, then you can pay for more expensive peripherals when you need them.

THIS! ^^^^

Exactly… how about we wait a week until we actually know something to rant about? Sound fair?

Yep it’s totally not ready for release. The sole reason I did not pre order the game is because they did not want to do a beta testing period like they did with 2020 months before they released it. And even then the game released in a disasterous way. 2024 with 0 testing will not be a good game at launch either.

But this is the exact point , all other games are previewing, streamers are showcasing and even producing tutorials on new features etc with a week to go. But not MSFS 2024, there is absolute zilch. If this was all gonna be ok why is there no preview footage, no game play footage? why are there no tech information like how careers work, or how the streaming is going to work or how any of the new features work? i find this incomprehensible there is nothing all we have is a splash screen that’s been tweeted endlessly for over 6 months

Dude, 2020 released in an unplayable state with MONTHS of closed and open beta testing. This game with ZERO testing will not be a flawless release

I’ll tell you a secret: MSFS 2020 is still in beta stage.

(don’t tell anyone)

I think maybe it’s to keep our expectations low.

I’ve been there since day one and it was most definitely not “unplayable”.

Zero PUBLIC testing. I can guarantee you that FS2024 is being tested every single day by a ton of people.

hahaha well they are doing a fantastic job of that

Did you miss the preview event in Arizona where dozens of streamers provided hours of previews?

I’ve been there too, since beta testing. And the game after it launched was CTD heaven

For my part, I will give Asobo a vote of confidence and allow myself to be surprised (positively, perhaps?)

Exactly the same thing happened with 2020, where all of us tech Alpha testers advised of some pretty big bugs before 2020 released, some of which still haven’t been fixed to this day!
