MSFS 2024 Poor Performance

I have a brand new PC with Windows 11 a AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core Processor and an NVidia 4080 graphics card with a Quest 3 VR headset.

You would think I could get good performance out of it.

I have the latest drivers for all. I am using the Quest Link with a dedicated wifi 6 router that my PC is connected via Ethernet and the Quest via wifi.

I let MSFS set the settings and then tried lowering everything to high and medium.

The graphics are horrible and I don’t know why.

It is jumpy and when I move my head the edges of models have jumping blockiness to them. Not sure how better to describe it.

Before starting MSFS 2024, the Meta VR system looks fine. I think it is the steam VR desktop. After starting MSFS 2024 it still looks fine.

When I start MSFS it starts in desktop mode. I then go to settings and change to VR mode.

It still looks fine until I actually start a flight. Then the ■■■■ begins. Suddenly everything gets jumpy and blocky.

I tried running the meta quest diagnostic tool and as soon as I go into an actual flight the FPS drops from 72 to 30 and bogs down often. The headroom is constantly negative between -43 and -50.

You would think a 4080 and Quest 3 with that processor would be able to handle medium graphics in this game.

I am sure there are just some settings I need to change.

What do I do?

Hi @hotshot10101 ,

Try to turn off Fauna under graphics.

I have some more information. It doesn’t seem to be a performance issue like frame rate.

What I am seeing is that just the right eye of the quest 3 has about 1/2 inch artifacts when I move my head. The left eye stays normal. The frame rate stays normal.

If I simply raise the quest off my head for just a couple seconds, the screen on the PC stops in place with the 2 halves showing, then I put it right back on and it reconnects and everything is fine.

It will then be fine for anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. Then the screen will freeze like it is loading something and the artifacts will be back, but only in the right eye.

When I did a screen recording using the G-Force Windows-G key thing, you can’t see it there.

I also did a screen recording directly on the quest 3 and you couldn’t see the artifacts there either.

It only shows up on the actual right display of the quest.

Anyone have any ideas? I have never seen this except while playing MSFS 2024.
